Well done,I couldn't have put it better myself,I'm actually looking forward to this massive cluster feck.Dorset Plodder wrote:Hope you enjoyed your night out Mezza? Do you think these options are a Realistic Option? At present RM can't even make the "New Delivery Methods" work! We were promised a "Review" of how they were working/not working. Some duties merely removed bikes and replaced them with vans. Works for some, not others. We are told it takes no longer to deliver a parcel than a letter Ha HaIt takes no longer to Deliver To Neigbour Ha Ha
And now they propose this BS....sounds like a load of suits sat around a table in wherever. ..... (Where is the BS HQ nowadays)?
![]()
I don't know about you but my frame is normally surrounded by a pile of Mech Boxes (delivered by the early birds who open up), a pile of IPS boxes (delivered by porters to save time), a pile of Larger Packets (that are stacked by porters/early birds from the packets area), a York...often two (to load my prepped duty into) and then I go and collect a smaller Redskin full of packets and another small redskin for tracked. All that's left is to collect a box (if I'm lucky) of Specials from the cage. TBH I'm always surprised that all this mail & packets can be sorted in such an organised manner and actually gets delivered to the correct addresses from anywhere in the world! It does actually work.![]()
It therefore comes as no surprise that some Suit thinks they can improve on it to just shave a few quid of the overall cost! And you suggest that this new idea is to sort all this mail IN THE BACK OF YOUR VAN?
Let them try it, it'll be f***ing Chaos on a scale not seen since Pompeii!
I just hope they let the idiots that proposed this triall the idea..... I'll be laughing my cock off!

The only thing I would say is that the fact that a system isnt the best or most efficient way to do something doesnt mean it wont be the one RM choose to implement. Most of our problems now come not from the people who keep coming up with these ideas but our fellow posties who by their actions make these bad ideas "work" by coming in early for free, rushing around, not taking their breaks and working overtime (to the extent that those who choose not to work OT are looked down upon)

Quite right. If people want to protect jobs in delivery you have to pretty much work to rule, that's where it's heading in 2017.Postie45 wrote:posties who by their actions make these bad ideas "work" by coming in early for free, rushing around, not taking their breaks and working overtime (to the extent that those who choose not to work OT are looked down upon)
Either do the job properly, use the tools and work your hours, or you'll see our terms and conditions eroded by cheap agency labour who'll run round with no thought for long term viability.

Trouble is it will never really happen, (the bits about doing the job properly in/on delivery).norm wrote:Quite right. Usually in life it's the minority spoiling it for the majority, however in RM where deliveries are concerned it's the other way round, the majority spoiling it for the minority!

Re: Increasing Delivery Lengths
I highly doubt that your DOM brings people in 2 hours early and doesn't pay them. If the DOM brings people in early to prep frames, which he's fully within his right to, then it's authorised OT.flimflamman wrote:Sorry but i would have to disagree about delivery lengths not being a problem,we have had 3 IHR from my office in the past 12 months for various joint problems,i myself have had to have time off recently with foot and back pain,i do the job properly using the trolley, breaks ect,but i am walking 5 hours plus on a regular basis, and the DOM now has a bunch of muppets who come in up to 2 hours early unpaid to not only throw there own walksort off, prep d2d ect but do the same on my frame,YES FOR FREE,so now the DOM says bag up and have your break you have about six hours to deliver your walk plus any lapsing, she does not see any problem with it.eastie wrote:it doesn't matter and don't worry about the delivery length or time. All you need to know is your start time and your finish time so cut off and then bring what's left back to the office.
So as I said INCREASED DELIVERY LENGTHS are not a problem and don't worry about it
I see a problem with it,in the next couple of years i will be out of a job due to IHR because i am knackered or out of a job because of the amount of sick leave i will have taken
I'm sure the people doing it are getting something out of the deal. I refuse to believe that there's anybody that would work 2 hours a day, everyday in exchange for nothing.

Re: Increasing Delivery Lengths
THE DOM doesn't bring them in, they do it voluntarily. We have one who comes in usually 1 hr 45 mins before the start of his shift. He doesn't sort, he throws in his own sequenced mail, then wanders off for a coffee for 15-30 mins then comes back and starts throwing in loose mail from the IPS into his frameThatsNotPlumb wrote:I highly doubt that your DOM brings people in 2 hours early and doesn't pay them. Are you literally mental?? How the hell do you expect people to spend 6+ hours outdoors in all weathers and say not to worry about it??eastie wrote:it doesn't matter and don't worry about the delivery length or time. It could be 3 hours or 10 hours.

This is the same at my office, she does not ask them to come in early, she just opens the office 2 hours early and they come in,when i asked one guy why he did it he said it suited him to keep on top of the job, when i asked why he threw other walks off he said it helped pass the time until the second wave arrivedNondescript wrote:THE DOM doesn't bring them in, they do it voluntarily. We had this problem a while ago with some "Overtime Bandits", thought they were great because they were throwing the mech off on two of three other duties. Lets face it any idiot (even DOMs) can throw mech off easily.Nice sit down & a chat with a cup of tea!flimflamman wrote:

Re: Increasing Delivery Lengths
Same thing in our office - DOM now throwing overtime at the IPS so we get out early enough to do extra absorption. Makes what are already tough 5hr plus walks get close to 5hr 45 and even 6hr daily. For HCT users in particular this is a truly exhausting and unsustainable daily workload. Surely this is getting close to a Duty of Care issue now?flimflamman wrote:Sorry but i would have to disagree about delivery lengths not being a problem,we have had 3 IHR from my office in the past 12 months for various joint problems,i myself have had to have time off recently with foot and back pain,i do the job properly using the trolley, breaks ect,but i am walking 5 hours plus on a regular basis, and the DOM now has a bunch of muppets who come in up to 2 hours early unpaid to not only throw there own walksort off, prep d2d ect but do the same on my frame,YES FOR FREE,so now the DOM says bag up and have your break you have about six hours to deliver your walk plus any lapsing, she does not see any problem with it.eastie wrote:it doesn't matter and don't worry about the delivery length or time. how long does IPS take?
how long does it take to prep your walks ?
for the last 2 i have no clue how your office can get everything sorted and prepped, bundled, bagged and loaded onto a van in approx 80 minutes for 6 hour deliveries ! (based on 8 hour day minus break)

Re: Increasing Delivery Lengths
Where do you get 6 hours from?? it takes 3 hours 30 mins to sort our mail before we go out so its only an additional 3 hours 35 mins hours delivering time before we drive back to the office and cut off taking off 40 mins meal relief and 10 mins pouching off time. Who the hell does 6 hours delivery ??meercat wrote:Are you literally mental?? Re: Increasing Delivery Lengths
We have a couple of walks in our office where you post first letter at 9.45 and on reasonably busy day you will most likely post last letter between 15.25 and 15.45 (excluding breaks). The duty holders cannot be claiming because reserves keep getting grief for claiming every-time they are on these duties.
Would be interesting to know how they plan to increase these 4.30 hr duties to 6 hr.
