I totally agree with this part of your posting Dingo, but it does begger belief that London can get COMMS out before Christmas and my Division have to wait until 08/01/16 ( Area Reps meeting ) before we even get a snippet of info, we do not seem to be very joined up in getting the message across, save for this ForumThe issue we face is massive but it impacts on everyone not just deliveries. This is a 5 year plan which starts from next year with one wave , Not Longer spans ! But later working ! This needs to be opposed and the union's needs to start communicating quickly

they never do.t3mcIUQWE2 wrote:If this is a response to my post it doesn't appear to answer it in any way.dingo wrote:Because longer spans and 6 hour spans are not part of the first part of Royal Mail Strategy. The so called 6 hour delivery plan will only be on the table if Royal Mail introduce the 20 large letter sorting machines. Their end game is not to have any indoor work in a delivery office and just have an outward model.
This is when the longer span would be their answer , along with delivery offices closures.
In the interim the move to later acceptance and therefore later starts via one way is their immediate plan.

Re: Poll - longer deliveries or less Full Timers.
Glenno to be fair to the other Divisional Reps , London had a head start due to two things they had a full presentation from Royal Mail on their strategy and they were written to by the Directors over in line of the strategy of moving to one wave in a number of offices and retarding the start times.
The Divisional Reps were given a presentation in Birmingham on 16th December over the modelling and Walsall trial. Equally we had a debate over the London Document which is now doing the rounds and being plaguised to suit other Divisions. All Divisions have wrote requesting a National Briefing to be held to discuss Royal Mail's strategy.
There is a further Divisional Reps meeting on the 14th February. This is why there has been a delay in other Divisions in having the debate.
In terms of the point you asked about you office having their delivery spans reduced and it appearing at odds with Royal a Mail's future strategy , I was trying to point out that longer spans are torwards the end of the strategy once they can sequence all manual letters. Until then the longer the span will decide on a number of things the level of Full time jobs in a Delivery Office , the average contracted hours of a part timer. If you have 3 hour span than you will have more part timers and your part time hours will be less. The reason being is obviously with one wave traffic that is going to be in later than current times and you will only have about 15% of manual work in on average from an early start.
The reason that BT had no span is that under the 3.5 hour delivery span agreed in 2003 areas such as the North East had moved to 50% part timers as indoor work reduced.
Obviously since BT 2010 a lot of spans have increased due to the amount of attendance calls which have increased massively and of course the number of new delivery points coming on line.
Every office can argue and ask for a review into spans , some offices have an imbalance of walks , some where all walls are now well over the agreed delivery span. The dignity and respect agreement clearly says no one has to work beyond their time unless they agree too. You can review your office by using the IR framework.

Market forces are driving RM into its current thinking with this 5 yr plan, a lot of what it wants to do is just a matter of 'when' not 'if'.dingo wrote: The issue we face is massive but it impacts on everyone not just deliveries. The CWU under TFG (Together For Growth) will have to work with RM to get the best out of the plan/s for the members with respect to pay & reducing the working week etc.
Yes it is difficult at this moment in time to come to terms with RM's thinking & strategy, big changes are coming & we have to be prepared to except this we really want to be part the business going forward.
Don't forget there are a lot of people out there who would jump at the chance of the job (working for RM) whether it's 10am-5pm/6 hr delivery span or both.
Also RM pay is better than the majority of it's competitors & like I said this is something that the CWU really has to work at to protect.

Re: Poll - longer deliveries or less Full Timers.
Very interesting especially with the traffic levels in London RM are very ambitious in this plan. It does worry me that RM have people thinking these things up. I hope the CWU will keep us informed considering that there has been nothing on the CWU website about this at all. I also have been told that April 2016 is going to be a big year nationally comparable to SDD/Transport Review and MC Review in 2003. My source got this from management but it could be a wind up but reading the London Divisonal memo it may not just the start of a RM 5year plan that may or not work.
