URGENT Question re: Paternity

Hi

Just looking for some views on my situation

My missus is pregnant and due on 27th May
About six months ago I told the manager and had to fill out a form when expecting to take paternity leave.

Now my has come to me and asked me if my missus has had the kid yet, and informs me that I wouldn't be able to get time off if she has the baby early or late. And I would need to see what ' the staffing situation' was like if I could get away if she went into labour during working hours.

As you can no doubt imagine this has really p***ed me off and is causing quite some upset to my wife, as she is worried that she will have no help with the baby and wont be able to get any rest once she has just delivered the baby.

I dont know what to do

refer him to the employees framework where it states what paternity leave is allowed

Your manager is trying it on . Your quite within your rights to go off as soon as your wife goes into labour.When you fill in the form it is only to give them a rough guide as to when you will be off. You are a allowed one week at full pay and another at a reduced rate. We have an agreement in our office where you can use annual leave to replace the second week and you dont have to book it in advance.

your mnager if you can call him that is tottally taking the pi.s. soon as your missus goes into hospital to have the baby regardless where you are on duty phone the office and let themknow staight away or go back to office to tell them.they can not refuse you to go to hospital .the day the baby is born you are automatically allowed full week off on paternity leave with pay.if you have deided to take 2nd week off on reduced pay straight after your first week that also cantbe refused .no matter what there staffing situation is.if you have any problems see your rep.if still no joy contact you branch secretary or area rep.do this staight away and sort it because you dont want the basta..s messing you about closer to the arrival date......

p.s try to get the paternity a copy of the paternity leave agreement.

f***ing hell some of these managers are right w*****s,DO THEY NOT KNOW HOW TO DO THERE JOBS OR AS SUGGESTED JUST TAKING THE PISS.

Ignore the manager, get hold of a union rep

I didnt go in on the saturday my missus went into labour 6 years ago.


In my office we just go and its not a problem.

Ask your manager to give you this information in writing.Make sure you take your rep or if you have no rep a friend with you,when you speak to him again.he is been a c***
