Not just that, if you don't give a diesel a good boot now and again the engine will coke up in various areas including cylinder heads and the exhaust gas channels. The result includes engine damage and......

:funneh :funneh :funneh a DROP IN FUEL ECONOMY.
They're planning to replace all diesel vans with petrol. Already happening in some offices.

Having now driven a few different vans with the dreaded box, I've got a couple of extra comments. For a start they're not calibrated to the same level, the van I had earlier in the week was a total nightmare and would bleep if you looked at it wrong whereas today's van was much more reasonable. Still a little oversensitive IMHO, but not a level that you could really complain about. (Whereas I think I might raise a PMT on the first van as it's clearly not set up correctly!)

On the farm track front, they're actually an advantage! At least the ones I travel on are, because you don't accelerate or brake much for anything up to 5 minutes or so ... Hence the box thinks your driving is much improved! :nana

I have a really rural delivery route! With miles of dirt tracks and winding hairpin corners! I also have 60mph roads with me having to pull out on blind bends and dips!! And this thing screams at me all day!!! I never brake any driving laws and consider myself a safe driver as did the RM driving instructor! But this box!! I hate it!!! Pointless stupid useless!!!

Has any office had any tracker feed back from managers as to how they are driving.

What is it going to tell them. The device is unduely sensitive, it goes off cornering a round about or accelerating to join a roundabout or breaking because somebody pulls in front of you at a junction.

The focus should be on training safer attitudes to driving. Don't tail gate, actively use mirrors, don't speed.

Once again management are spendings millions to keep track of what postmen are doing.
Just because they sit behind their desks with their slippers on doing sod all, doesn't mean everybody else.

these trackers can track you down to the min you stop to get out your van in real time have seen it on the computer in office. the manger can sit at there desk and see where your are parked at 12 o clock and why you have been sitting in the same spot for 10 min.

I can see it throwing a fit on deep rural duties , you know the ones that feel like you are driving across a battlefield in first or maybe second gear just so you can actually get to that Farmhouse.

I will love to ask my Dom if they could come out with me and show me how to drive within the limits that RM want me too , give it a couple of weeks and they will give up .

One of the vans in a nearby office has had forward " reverse " sensors fitted , they really love queuing in traffic ...... So beeping from the front , beeping from the rear and soon to be beeping and disco lights inside and when you finally stop to actually deliver some mail , voices from beyond the grave telling you about a handbrake.

I wonder what " driver aid " will be next ...... Ear defenders ?
you raise an extremely valid point here, specifically in relation to asking your DOM to show you. Should we find ourselves in the situation of being invited in to "discuss" our driving will the person interviewing us be an expert in relation to the data put in front of us should they decide that the conduct code need be applied. As with other postings would it not be a reasoned response to agree and say yes my driving is terrible it has gotten worse it now seems all i do is wait for that thing to go off, all my attention is on the light and the beeping its infuriating, grating and occupies all my thoughts whilst driving for you, i dont feel comfortable while driving, i feel on edge all the while it is distracting even when its not going off or the light is changing because im trying to not make it change or go off my driving is strainedand more importantly my attention has become less and less on the road.
Confused... You won't be, after the next episode of. SOAP

Has anybody been to the office about their driving? It seems to me these things are only there to beep at us and drive us insane.
Very nearly didn't come in today because I'm sick of the constant beeping. How do we disable these things?

The new box doesn't it's a sensor rather than a tracker (like a black box on aircraft), but the old boxes that are hidden do have GPS.

Telemetry - Global Positioning System (GPS)

Most enquiries from Branches around telemetry express concerns around the real-time recording and monitoring of drivers doing their job using the GPS tracker facility which can produce a log of where, when, and how long each vehicle was in a location. While the Assets Director, Phil O'Gorman, was at pains to reassure us that the system was not being brought in for staff monitoring purposes; we made it known that we would require within any agreement a robust statement about guarding against it becoming a surveillance tool that would be used as a big stick to beat our members. This will also need to be covered off in an enabling agreement.
