Re: ARE WE COPING
I couldn't put up with all the Customer complaints at this time of the year. You've got to have some pretty good customer relations skills to deal with all the idiots that turn up with Parcel Force.... DPD.......Hermes...Yodel etc cards. Getting stressed because they were in and nobody bothered knocking! Or phoning up and complaining that they can't find their parcels, "I've had a text to say it'd been delivered"! Unfortunately it'd been delivered to his old address because he hadn't changed it on his Amazon account when he'd moved! In The Know wrote:

Re: ARE WE COPING
We have a lot of parcels not cleared each day at the mo.
Missorts are left sitting till the next day as well.
The amount of missorts coming into my DO from the MC are ridiculous - the extra staff obviously include Ray Charles and Stevie Wonder - OR they simply sling it all on a york and send a load of missorts into every DO in order to clear at the MC.
We are a medium sized DO and i'm sending between 3 and 6 yorks a day back to the MC full of letters and parcels.
Even if i throw off the missorts and tray them up to individual DO's the same letters and cards come back the next day (i know because i spotted it and marked about 200 cards to check the next day!!
Meanwhile the SPS system has thrown our callers into complete chaos - we have additional staff for the odd hour here and there, usually 3 in there when we only have 2 pc's - waste of time. When the regualr indoor staff have a day off (DOM support, RLE and callers) the cover duty is allowed to go out and do his OT during his cover duty time. Meaning, the regualr duty holder has to play catch up for the next 2 days.
Only had 400 years to get it right though, so give it a chance eh?

Re: ARE WE COPING
Our SPDO is full to the brim with parcels. We are running out of room. This time last year we had three staff on bikes. This year we have 2 staff with a van each plus all the large parcels. We are working at least 9 hours a day, no break, haven't got time. It's a race to get finished before it gets dark as there are no street lights. I have been a Postie for 17 years and Xmas pressure has been bad before but this year it's awful. We are struggling and becoming exhausted. I'm looking forward to my 5 days off over Christmas, unfortunately being female I won't have my feet up!!!! Merry Christmas everyone.

Our DO is a disaster, I can't believe a company this size can be so poorly run. Said to my Lino today I need to cut off his reply 'you can't we have 14 folk off sick' how is that my problem? Try running the office the way it should be run and improve moral it may do wonders for the absence...

Re: ARE WE COPING
Our office is absolutely stretched to the limit
We got packet drivers, part-time AND full-time staff being called in earlier than their shift time to walk-sort and then going over their time at the end of the shift. And we also got staff working their days off on overtime and managers delivering packets.
The overtime bill at our DO must be huge as there seems to be a massive focus on getting everything delivered on the day regardless of the cost
So our office appears to be coping with the workload but a lot of our staff are really feeling the pressure now. In the Xmas Marathon some of them 'hit the wall' last week and are now only managing to take 5 or 6 loops minus all the packets. Whilst the never ending supply of Yorkes on Wednesday must have had the gaffer wondering if Jeremy Beadle was going to turn up hidden in one.
Also, I have never seen so much panic, anxiety and disorder happen in managers simply because someone has rung in sick...but then again, thats what their Xmas bonus is for!!
