I work at the mdec as a Christmas casual and was sent home from work on Monday night due to me being ill. I received an email the next day informing me I had been issued my first strike for "unauthorised absence", even though my manager said it was ok to go home.
Last night I was not ok to go in either so emailed the mdec (no phone number to ring i noticed) informing them I would not be in work, but heard nothing back.
I'm confused, was the first strike a mistake? I signed the signing in sheet on the first night and everything so there was evidence of me being there...

Re: Angard strike policy
You don't mention which MDEC you're working at - I'm assuming Doxford? - but due to volumes of work casual staff are being granted early finishes every shift at present, and whole shifts off. Going home early in these circumstances should not result in a strike - not sure about a full shift off sick but again because of the business need at present I expect this would have been granted had you been able to speak to someone in advance. I would have a word with your team manager on your return to clarify. I know others have had similar issues this year and had their strike removed, but of course the circumstances may have been different.
I assume that you emailed a 'reed global' address and therefore your email would go to Angard who tend not to monitor these outside office hours. There is a telephone number for Doxford MDEC which used to be given out to staff but this may have changed as I haven't had to use it this year.

Re: Angard strike policy
Yeah Doxford is correct.
Thanks for that. Woke up to an email this morning saying that they have terminated my contract with immediate effect due to being off ill twice. Trying to contest it due to the fact I was actually in work on Monday night but was sent home. Pretty gutted if I have actually lost out on a job because of this.

Re: Angard strike policy
That sounds extremely unfair. Regardless of the Monday night thing, you've only had one period of sickness and I would argue just one day off sick. If you want to try speaking to your manager at RM the number is 01915123038.
As far as job opportunities go, I wouldn't worry too much. The MDEC really is just a Christmas job and early termination doesn't stop you applying for other jobs with Angard or RM, and it's unlikely to be held against you.
