Free mail redirection service launched for flood victims

The Royal Mail has set up a redirection service for residents in Carlisle that are affected by flooding.

The service is free and allows those who have had to move out of their homes to have their post sent to an alternative address.

This can be set up online, at your local post office or by calling 0345 740740.

Deliveries and collections

Deliveries and collections have been significantly affected by the flooding in parts of Northern England and Southern Scotland over the weekend. Some deliveries and collections were not possible on Saturday in many areas due to flooded roads. The worst affected areas included those served by the following delivery offices: Appleby in Westmorland (CA16) Penrith (CA10 & 11), Windermere (LA21, 22 & 23), Keswick (CA12) , Kendal (LA8 & LA9), Cockermouth (CA13), Hawick (TD9) , Hexham (NE44 – 48) and Prudhoe (NE 17, 41, 42 & 43).

Although the weather has improved, service will take a little time to recover in several areas. Further updates on the situation in these areas will be added to our Service Update web pages throughout the day.

Closure of the Forth Road Bridge in Scotland and the long detour has created much longer travelling times between the Edinburgh Mail Centre and delivery offices north of the Firth of Forth and Northern Scotland. We are working hard to deal with this and have robust contingency arrangements to mitigate the effects of the closure.
