All Divisional Reps have been invited to hold meetings with their Branch"s and Area Reps and submit a report.

The strategy is going to be communicated at some stage. The letter to Branch"s sent out yesterday is clearly the first communication. Nothing has been agreed by the Union and it will have a massive impact on mail centres , network drivers , collections , MGV drivers , RDCs , MPU staff and indeed delivery staff.

I guess the union will put something out following the meeting on the 16th December. I know that other Divisions have submitted reports to Bob.

It is not down to me to decide when we communicate to the members but we will be doing our own in London.

In terms of Dave well he has been very busy , trade union bill ( we may need this next year ) , The People"s Post Campaign , meeting Branch"s , dealing with the Pension issues , attending the various equality conferences and obviously dealing the issues of the whole union not just the postal side.

Let's face the facts Royal mail have already ordered the machine to sort all flats and sequence them which will decimate ips time I envisage f/t employees being solely indoor and p/t just coming in and taking out deliveries I maybe wrong but time will see but the facts are Royal Mail will invest in technology to reduce the biggest cost to the buisness and that I'm afraid is its staff.

The walks are already long enough, if anything some of them could even do with being revised further & thinned out.

I also think this whole trolley, van sharing, park & loop delivery system is completely impracticable in some areas. Having some duties that reverted back to the pouch boxes wouldn't hurt.

What annoys people,is that the people who make these decisions, haven't done a delivery in years or have never done a delivery EVER!
It's easy to sit in an office and tell other people to just accept it

It should be a meeting of delivery reps not senior reps who have no clue what its like to do the job!
But hey, maybe thats how the cwu like it.

all reps and all members will be consulted and asked for their but a local rep is elected by their office only.

Branch's are meant to consult with their reps and members and Divisional consult with Branch's.

Any agreement and we are nowhere near an agreement will be subject to a membership vote.

Yes senior reps have not done a walk but how many offices have you visited and spoke to members ? Not all offices are the same in an area let alone a country ! The impact from this effects the mail centre workforce , the CSS operator , the Network Driver the 7.5 tonne driver , the RDC worker how many local reps in delivery understand their impacts or role ?

Like I said there unit reps meetings , there will be membership meetings but this is a game changer in all functions not just delivery !

The introduction of XMS machines will have just as big an impact on MCs as it will in DOs. There probably won't be any manual letter of large letter sections which will affect any staff members who are DDA and do flats and letters sorting. Anyone who has a TOPS2K, iLSM, CSS or CFC duty will loose it as all them machines will probably be redundant. Also anyone who'sa duty is segging manual letter, mech letter and large letter trays will also loose their duties

Not forgetting that if mail centres are taking later acceptance of parcels or new products your outward times will move forward and your inward would also. Professional drivers who take work to delivery offices and MPUs during the night will also be hugely impacted .

The reality with pushing the delivery window back to 10 till 5 is that the processing window for outward and inward would also move later by up too 3 hours !

for the people who voted for longer deliverys, think about this: 5 years of full time pay with 6-7 hour deliveries then your physically wrecked (knees/hips/back etc) & you have to take medical retirement, or 25 years partime with smaller rounds.
Which one pays you more money? have a good think! sometimes being short sighted is not a good thing, life is a marathon not a sprint! ever heard the hare & the tortoise story?
6-7 hour deliveries = burnout.

ok here goes it, the Birmingham meet is the first point to which the CWU Senior Reps get to see what RM's intentions are, fair Business sense or otherwise, then there will be Area Rep's meets to pass this on etc, what concerns me is that the info is already there and BOTH top ends have already engaged in this process, relaying this info as a measuring exercise will determine where we all go from here, modernisation and being as efficient as one can be WILL come at a cost, what and how much is yet to be revealed, I await with intrepadation to see the Business Plan that will either make or break this Business and it's workforce :wave :wave :pray :pray

There has been no initiative in recent agreements to monitor and record absences linked to the impact of increased delivery span and no independent ergonomic medical expert has been employed to objectively assess how a 5/6 delivery on the flat differs from a 5/6 delivery climbing stairs in a housing scheme and how each type impacts long term.

Data along those lines should already be in the bag and communicated to members and then to Royal Mail when surprise surprise they want this or that.To be blindsided after trumpeting the apparent benefits of being embedded in the company is not acceptable.

Also if the Doomsday scenario being punted arrives and new machines are brought in and indoor time is vaporized then maintaining FT jobs is hardly clear cut, many members know their earning potential may be greatly reduced if they are shoved out the door by IHR /VR and know FT elsewhere may bring in less than say 33 hours pay at Royal Mail.

if we lose 1 & a half - 2 hours indoor work we may actually be able to get the job done ontime using trolleys.
