It's all there in the link - read it and then the debate can begin on what we need or want to do

What you fail to realize is the current 3.5 hour - 4 hour deliveries take 5 hours plus for most of us!dingo wrote:TBT who is talking about 7 hours spans acceptable ? No one I know !
No I know supports RM strategy fact !
But the worst thing we can do is say well keep a span which does away with thousands of part times jobs over 28 hours and tens of thousands of well paid full time jobs !
As to get the members involved well I am up for that and a consultation. Exercise needs to take place laying out the facts !
The choice your painting is either have a full time job with a longer span or a job with a shorter span but less wages is not a strategy to unite the members .
Let's be clear the biggest reduction we have ever had off the working week is a hour and half that won't save jobs !
We have way too much work to do each day! we go over our finish times by hours and hours each week!! The point im making is if we get less indoor work we may just about get done ontime!!!! You are making it sound like we are getting done ontime with our current duty spans!! This is just crazy! the cwu is so out of touch its unreal!

i do not understand half of this postdingo wrote:Hatful I can guarantee you I will do more to this than you ! Putting up positions are not helpful ! I have risked a bit putting what I have so your informed ! I am out of here
And calling me names like hatful is just silly.
Plus you say that keeping spans as they are will result in thousands of job losses, what do you think taking 20 odd thousand walks out of delivery will do??

mebbies he's been on the pop. anyways, dingo's ok really, he does give us a lot of info, but this lot got out of the bag by our div reps email to ''bobby Gibson.'' and now that it is out the bag, its shows how uninformed the membership are on matters of vast importance. I really hope the members vote against all this and make a stand against RM. we need to tell them enough is enough.halfull wrote:i do not understand half of this postdingo wrote:Hatful I can guarantee you I will do more to this than you ! I am out of hereputting up positions? what does that mean? if you mean me saying div reps should see what its like & try it whats wrong with that? I dont believe they know what its like in delivery anymore! nothing personal, but the people who do the job should have the most say.

If that position was remotely credible, why didn't we oppose the introduction of sequenced letters?TrueBlueTerrier wrote:If thats the national strategy for the Union as a whole then I am afaid us in deliveries are in for a hard time.dingo wrote: I think the key is we have to oppose the introduction of the new large letter automation systems which removes all flats and smaller parcels from being manually done
Or walk sorted trays before that?
When was opposing the introduction of technology ever a successful strategy for any union in any industry in the past 100 years?

Re: future of deliveries. email to bob gibson
its not all there- the delivery notes are inadequate and what relevance does the Norway post delivery model have to a DO in Royal Mail with 80%+ delivery points to tenements/flats.Geordie wrote:This is what we're up against

Re: future of deliveries. email to bob gibson
Dingo when are the union and RM going to understand fully the health impacts the current delivery model is having on the workforce? Sick levels are at record highs and continue to climb as the 4.5-5 hour duties take their toll on employees. Its unsustainable. Walking in excess of 10 miles per day on delivery cannot be maintained indefinitely never mind the potential increase to 6 hours. This will just kill off the workforce. We don't come to work to break ourselves to the point we have to be medically retired and spend the rest of our lives in constant pain because the job has ruined us. If that's the case the union should be pushing to claim compensation for it members because of repetitive strain injuries.dingo wrote:Look I have not met one senior rep who supports Royal Mail's business's strategy to move to a later delivery window. However the fact is unlike posters on here who can shout and scream no and think that Royal Mail will change their plans they are clearly wrong.
Royal Mail plans are driven by the fact that more and more big customers want later acceptance times into Mail centres up to 3 in the morning which means you cannot provide delivery the next day and there the growth in parcel delivery is moving torwards an evening service which is when workers come in from work 18:00 - 2200.
So Royal Mail wants to introduce more intonation which removes all your manual work with mancines which have already been trailed in Exeter.
The plan is to deploy their strategy over 5 years but with change taking place over the next 5 years. In fact Royal Mail have the capacity if they want too introduce.one wave in 50% of delivery offices in the UK as early as January! Basically all that means is you would not get any sequencing till around 9 with only manual work in your office before think what that will do.
This is not an issue which anyone want to tackle but it is a real issue nevertheless. This is the facts not dreamed up nonsense as some others quoted. The idea is too have significant less offices and less walks but over longer spans meaning less jobs. Only the CWU will change this, no one else ! Remember that fact
Its about time senior RM management and high ranking union reps were made to spend a week on delivery. Things would soon change.

This scenario would only apply to offices with a high ratio of full time staff, in most offices that ship has already sailed and the bulk of the indoor work is preparing part time duties not IPS. What we have here is a solution to a particular localised problem.

Where they probably still have 95% full time staff despite not having the workload and yet they influence delivery strategy on that basis.fishtank wrote:This scenario would only apply to offices with a high ratio of full time staff, in most offices that ship has already sailed and the bulk of the indoor work is preparing part time duties not IPS. I think the suggestion is you will lose your prep time as well. I don't know these machines well enough to say whether that is far fetched or not.fishtank wrote:This scenario would only apply to offices with a high ratio of full time staff, in most offices that ship has already sailed and the bulk of the indoor work is preparing part time duties not IPS.
