IMHO please be very careful - it's nice to be tolerant and have principles, but there are many companies which have somehow managed to legally shed their full-time permanent employees and replace them with cheaper foreign labour with barely a word in defence of the ex-employees.
Principles will get you nowhere if they have a job and you don't.
Around here virtually entire factories and warehouses are now manned by Eastern Europeans - the employment agencies claim that 90% of the names on ther books are Eastern European and that British people don't want to work. Where are the Brits that were employed there? Where are the Brits that were on the agency books?

I agree. Catch 22 situation. Postmen are being replaced by agency. Our union subs go towards, amongst other things, the CWU campaign for the rights of agency workers. A noble cause perhaps, but ironically in this day and age it`s agency employees that will be replacing CWU members as the main workforce for RM.

IMO the union get involved in far too many "noble causes" for OUR good. TBH I couldn't give a toss what goes on in Chile, Venezuela or the third world. I am concerned about what goes on in RM and how it affects the workforce.

I don't know. There is only one case I can remember being publicised, and information is scant as it was only reported in three place, and one was Polish. The people in this report had been employed for less than one year.

In my area, the majority of warehouse/factory jobs are filled by agencies, so it's easy to replace people with other people.
