Management would s**t themselves in our office if we slowed down and worked to the correct pace. On busy days we would be bringing stuff back as would a lot of others because the rounds are too big on these busy days, so we work faster to complete in our time. Then on lighter days we continue at the same quick pace enabling us to make some time, give and take. If that balance gets shafted our office is going tits up, big time.

Why the hell work faster to get the job done ??
Keep to your normal pace and cut off.
All management will do is give you more to go EVEN FASTER.
If you work normally and cut off they won't take more hours out your office

I would say leave when it is time to leave. I find it difficult to leave early anyway because of the change in working hours and additional workloads involved!

Some managers in Royal Mail may take a dim view of those who regularly finish well before time everyday. After all, as someone has mentioned it may be an indication that the duty is too easy and needs more calls - but that in turn creates problems for someone else who works at a slower pace.

But ironically the managers do rely on some of those faster posties who finish early to take out some of the extra mail (that some posties have left behind due to the overrunning procedure) on overtime. And so a few of the posties in our office are itching to get out the door and get finished, so that it is not too late for them when they do the extra work on overtime.

One day, the managers will demand that everyone work to their time and deliver the mail themselves that any staff leave behind. But then again, observing the fact that there are no spare Royal Mail vans in the yard when everyone has gone (and are not likely to get one until the first guy arrives back sometime after lunch) may explain why managers generally prefer to create spreadsheets and put up health and safety wallpaper instead.

So forcing staff staff to leave the office when its officially time to leave is pretty much like getting stuffed turkeys to vote for Xmas!! :hmmmm
On the face of it, shareholder value is the dumbest idea in the world.

NOBODY is supposed to be rushing around!!
Maybe they are going at a normal speed rather than as you say " rushing around "

If you consistently exceed your targets, you will consistently be given higher targets to meet! (Though personally I prefer "As long as they pretend to pay us, we'll pretend to work"!)

Like I said, the balance at our place is about right at the moment, but I know it won't stay that way...... walks are already being looked at, taken out with the view of making the remaining rounds even bigger. Trying to make a bit of time will be a thing of the past, as it already is in some offices. That's ok with me, going at the correct pace using the correct delivery methods there's going to be plenty of overtime around for the docket kings.

hm im on your side i think ! what i mean by rushing around is people "cutting corners" and not taking breaks, as you say no one should be doing it, but the same old people do it day in, day out.

We have people who actually jog on delivery. I kid you not. I'm sure most offices have the same.

It's this kind of inconsistencies across the business that sucks.

Here's a thing I don't understand. We have peoe in our office who arrive at work 30/45minutes everyday and work for free. But they won't go 10minutes over at the other end to finish. They'd rather cut off and bring 1/2 a loop back.
Whats that all about? I understand not wanting to go over but why work for free every day???

Maybe they just want a space in the car park lol. Why anyone would work for free is beyond me.

people who are capable of finishing should not be punished for being good, because someone doesnt work hard enough and plods round.

hard, fast workers get punished enough as it is, getting put on the bigger walks as no one else can do them in time, getting put with slow partners to 'help them out'

this is one of the few jobs where being good at is is not rewarded.

making the good staff stay because someone else is slow is not fair
Are you daft?
