A handful of customers have asked me to leave packets in bins/sheds. I always feel uncomfortable doing it. Shut notice from now on.
Current policy for tracked is, can leave with neighbour but if you normally leave ordinary packets in their greenhouse for example, you can't unless it specifies it in the safeplace box on the label. This has pxssed a few of my customers off but better that than lose my job. Never leave anything in view or not undercover, it's the one service we have over our doorstepping competition!

bostaph wrote:Hi, can someone please tell me RM's policy regarding packets, (tracked etc) left in blue bins/sheds. Will they take action against me if the item goes missing? I rarely do it, as I believe my management team would take action against me in a heartbeat, even though they put pressure on all of us to do it. Thanks.
We had a manager who told us that "Getting rid of Tracked items was more important than the security of the mail"! They seemed strangely unwilling to put that statement in writing though ...

My manager is the same. Get rid of tracked at all costs, but refused to put in writing that he wouldn't 'do' me if item went missing.
If it does say ' leave in bin', I take a picture of the packet stating that with my phone, so I have proof.

Take a photo of the note, remove it after for security and photo the packet in that place. It covers your a$$ (well it does in our place!!) and to my knowledge there hasn't been an incidence of anyone falling foul by following addressee's instruction. Otherwise, take it back.
If the person leaves a note saying you can sign for their Special Delivery and pop it through, would you take a photo and assume you were covered?

One of a posties main responsibilities is to secure the mail. If it isn't secure then you haven't done your job properly.

Notice a lot of Tracked items do say "leave out of sight or under cover (e.g. with neighbor (sic))" - maybe take photo of label before putting in blue bin ...

... but NEVER on bin collection day :no no
"We're under model" - oh no we're not - stick your lapse elsewhere ...

How does Mr Thief know you have a parcel due that day, unless Mr Postman phones him.

^^ I wish there was a function to 'like' posts!!
I have often thought that. You could like helpful posts like when TBT et al give links/answers to questions, informational ones and funny ones.
I doubt this forum client has the facility because I think admin would have implemented it years ago.

Agree totally, even refused to place parcel in Safeplace today -

'Delivery Scanned' annotated with a Safeplace which was 'Behind plant pot at front door' - the plant pot was about 6 inches high and 6 inches diameter - the parcel was the
size of two shoe boxes!! Plus the door is about three strides from the public footpath. So it didn't get left and annotated the 739 with 'Safeplace not considered secure'
