Re: future of deliveries. email to bob gibson
the crux of all this though has to be the outcome of it if does go through (god forbid). the union should be all over this from the word go. there stands to be thousands (25 is the figure quoted by the A/R) of redundancies as a result of bringing in 6 hr deliveries. I questioned Mark Baulch of the executive who visited our office with the Div/Rep and Area/Rep, and two DSMs from RM. I asked where is the extra work going to come from to make our 4.45 deliveries up to 6hrs. he said well obviously it will come from splitting up other deliveries. which means the duties that are absorbed and the duty holder will be no longer required. now this will happen nationwide. and we've been told that there is currently 68000 deliveries across the whole country and that figure is to be revised to 43000, do the maths.!! and our union are considering ideas to help royal mail bring this in!! it beggars belief. they cant say if we don't accept this there will be job losses, because there WILL be job losses if it DOES comes in. our office is in absolute utter disbelief that they've even considered this. some staff have emailed the branch demanding to know what the hell is going on here. we will get a vote on it, and it surely must be a GREAT BIG NO. but the way our union is going on, its looking like a forgone conclusion. we are discussing some sort of petition from our office to get the union to reject this from the start.

Re: future of deliveries. email to bob gibson
RM really have no idea what's happening in offices do they. Indoor work for part-timers due to staff shortages and extreme pressure applied to full-timers has already been cut to the bare minimum. Many leave the depot 20/30 mins early just to be able to complete their own duty within their time. Which in essence means many duty's are already touching on 5hr 15 mins. With an enforced break that would bring you to almost 6 hrs. And they think they can add another 30% to each duty.
Good luck with that.

Rotating weeks with mail centre's,so 1 week delivering, and 1 week in a mail centre to recover, that's going to shock a few people.

Wouldn't work, there's got to be 2 or 3 times more delivery staff then what there is MC staff and with the machines that RM are looking at there'll probably be even less jobsDB1100 wrote:Rotating weeks with mail centre's,so 1 week delivering, and 1 week in a mail centre to recover, that's going to shock a few people.

I must admit I wouldn't mind cross functional working down the valley mc, and there staff getting out on delivery for a bit in the cold wind and rain to share the pain, see how many of the fossils retire then.

The good old "them and us" philosophy.
It's easy to see how RM get so many poorly planned or ill-thought out proposals through with such unity in the ranks.

You'd need to be prepared to be on your feet for virtually the whole shift, if XMS machines get brought in, then manual flats and letter sorting sections will probably go, they're the only jobs that you can sit down forgary1975 wrote:I must admit I wouldn't mind cross functional working down the valley mc, and there staff getting out on delivery for a bit in the cold wind and rain to share the pain, see how many of the fossils retire then.

Don't sit down (apart from break) from my start time till finish, my duty (and many others) doesn't include any IPS as the prep & delivery takes up all the timeSpacePhoenix wrote:You'd need to be prepared to be on your feet for virtually the whole shift, if XMS machines get brought in, then manual flats and letter sorting sections will probably go, they're the only jobs that you can sit down forgary1975 wrote:I must admit I wouldn't mind cross functional working down the valley mc, and there staff getting out on delivery for a bit in the cold wind and rain to share the pain, see how many of the fossils retire then.

Re: future of deliveries. email to bob gibson
Our next pay deal is in April we need a big reduction in the working week so that 6 hour deliveries will not be the case. It is time we reduce the working week to 33 hours and look at the cutting off procedure as well.

It's not surprising when you think of the difference in job's and working conditions is it.Tman wrote:The good old "them and us" philosophy.

don't want to sit down, I graft all shift, it would be a nice change with no wind or rain blowibg up my nose ive been down the mail centre and it isn't a patch on delivery I think the fresh air and a brisk walk will do mc staff the world of good.SpacePhoenix wrote:You'd need to be prepared to be on your feet for virtually the whole shift, if XMS machines get brought in, then manual flats and letter sorting sections will probably go, they're the only jobs that you can sit down forgary1975 wrote:I must admit I wouldn't mind cross functional working down the valley mc, and there staff getting out on delivery for a bit in the cold wind and rain to share the pain, see how many of the fossils retire then.

Sorry? A mail centre worker is warning delivery posties that -shock-horror- he'd have to be on his feet all day if we did his job? Whatever do you think we do all day? Maybe it's the image of Postman Pat pootling about in his van all day stopping for tea with an occasional stop for delivery? Hilarious.

I wouldn't be surprised if we see jobs going in MCs with packet sorting machines (and XMS machines if they get brought in). Deliveries are the one area where they can't cut jobs, though they could make delivery jobs more part time. I wouldn't be surprised to see RM look at making DOs either parcels only (inc Tracked and Specials) or letters, flats and d2d only (no recordeds)wannabeek wrote:Sorry? Re: future of deliveries. email to bob gibson
of course they can cut jobs in delivery!!.. this is what the post is mainly about. the guy from the union executive said they will cut deliveries if it goes to 6hrs because they will take work from other deliveries to make some deliveries up to 6hrs and the ones they take it from will become redundant. the figure being bandied about is 25000 redundancies. that's in delivery alone.SpacePhoenix wrote:I wouldn't be surprised if we see jobs going in MCs with packet sorting machines (and XMS machines if they get brought in). Re: future of deliveries. email to bob gibson
Maybe its time for a breakaway union just for delivery staff if the top brass aren't going to listen to its members?
