Former City Link employees who worked at the Belfast depot have won an Industrial Tribunal claim over the company’s failure to properly consult.

As previously reported, City Link went into administration on Christmas Eve with the closure of 51 depots and the loss of over 2,500 jobs nationwide.

A Tribunal has now ruled that City Link failed to properly consult with its employees based at the Belfast depot on their redundancy so they are automatically entitled to 90 days’ pay (capped at 8 weeks’ pay due to damages being paid by the Department of Education and Learning).

Carl Moran, a partner with the law firm JMW Solicitors LLP which represented the former City Link employees, said: “We are delighted to have won the judgement in Northern Ireland for City Link’s failure to consult properly over the redundancy of the employees at the Belfast depot. We are now urging any other ex-employees from this depot to contact us as they are also entitled to apply for the same amount of damages.”

As previously reported, on Friday (13 November) in the Coventry Magistrates Court three former City Link directors were cleared of charges that they had failed to properly inform the UK government about planned redundancies.
