Sri Lanka Postal employees launch island wide strike

Nov 13, Colombo: A section of the Sri Lanka postal department workers have launched a 24-hour strike from midnight Thursday and the operations of many post offices are expected to be paralyzed as a result of the trade union action.

Co-convener of the Joint Federation of Postal Services Union, Chinthaka Bandara said that the postal workers around the country have applied for sick leave as part of the trade union action. The 24-hour trade union action is based on 14 key demands, he said.

The union official said a Satyagraha will be staged opposite the Postal Department Headquarters this morning.

The strike will continue until midnight Friday.
