Shared van - non member goes out on own to do O/T

Just picked a shared van duty with a non-member who ghosts(does cut-offs,etc) and he gets his own van everyday.

He comes in early, rushes around and is ready almost an hour before i am and is not prepared to take his meal relief before he goes out.

Management give him the van, i do not ask to go out on my own.

The only time i went out with him there was about 20 missorts and i had to go back on myself loads of times whilst delivering his round...it was the first time he'd cut off in 10 years.

I have only managed to complete my delivery once in the 2 weeks i have been doing it.

Recently i have been heckled by other members saying 'how come i get my own van'.

What can i do to make management make him share a van with me....what is my argument?

Anyone experienced this and can help please?

There's nothing you can do to make the dom make him share a van with you, if they want to give him the extra van that is their choice, your choice is whether you are willing to work over or not

I know it's my choice whether i extend or not, i am a safety Rep, i do my job properly.

It's the fact our new revision started 2 weeks ago and the DOM has made everyone go out in shared vans, rather than dish out single vans to people who do O/T or wanted to finish early.

I'm getting crap from dic**eads who want there own van and i need to get an argument together to make this guy share a van with me...any ideas?

There's nothing you can do to make the dom make him share a van with you, if they want to give him the extra van that is their choice, your choice is whether you are willing to work over or not

simply tell them its not your choice, as for an argument to make him share a van, sorry but there is nothing you can say that will make it happen, its your managers choice

Just keep your head down and plod on. If the managers can magic up an extra van for him because he does docket, then that shows those others how they get their own van too. It's not rocket science - do a favour and get a favour.

It's about keeping my credibility as a Rep, it's making it look like the Union are getting 'sorted out'.

I understand this is a typical management undermining technique, unfortunately some of my Safety hating members don't quite see it that way and i would also like to think it would be me irritating him, not the other way round.

As others have said, you can't make decisions for management or your colleagues, you can only advise them, and if they chose to ignore that, then it's their own choice.

Some offices are short of vans. We, for example, have the bare minimum to do the job. Vans are expensive assets and the number you have should be closely controlled. Sounds like you have at least one too many. I'd go down the waste of assets route, somebody may be hiding how your vans are really being used.

To get the office to understand that its not your decision to go out solo but your DOMs, I used to ask the DOM a question in WTL, so they would have to answer correctly or I would correct them if they tried lying more than usual. As a rep you can only achieve so much, but sometimes you need your members to understand there is nothing you can do to improve the situation but the problem is RM and your DOM.

Simply laugh & say if you have a problem with me getting my own van,go & see the manager.
