Parcelforce might take up some of those job losses which would be fine for those that drive and want to be owner/drivers.
For the rest - part time or P45?
Why don't RM employ a separate more flexible workforce to deliver the D2D?
No one likes doing them and some weeks you get 6 and some weeks none, so having a separate workforce on zero hour contracts/minimum wage to deal with the fluctuations would make more sense.
Zero hour contracts/minimum wage? great idea, maybe you should volunteer
Great idea hand all the parcels to parcelforce the d2ds to zero hour contract people and letters to 25 hour contract workers....watch this space, its the future
I have a brilliant idea.
We could have walkers delivering mail and drivers doing packets, specials ,tracked etc.
Just like it used to be before van share started.
More chance of changing the name to Consignia
The current workload expected on van share teams if getting undo able.

It would make things so much quicker. not having to sort parcels in the morning, having more space in the van, saving hours not delivering parcels or writing p739s, trying neighbours etc.
the man hours needed would go down, which in turn would mean parcel force would need more hours, and could take up the staff that royal mail no longer needs.
it just seems to me that royal mails focus on mail and parcels is not efficient and splitting the two would make more sense.
so if parcel force take all the packets {sorry parcels} would guess a hell of a lot of mc jobs would go thanks.
The current way of working is crap. Many large (mainly Amazon) parcels that won't fit in the trolley, which then get passed on to the already overwhelmed driver. I seem to remember we got told we would only be delivering parcels up to shoebox size!

Suppose it depends on the size of shoes they measured the shoebox size as! Clowns size 18?
Biggest issue I found with trolley shifts is the loads and loads and loads of tiny wee packets which end up taking most of the space!
Either way something needs to change. The current infrastructure is built for and set up around mail, parcels are increasing at an overwhelming rate and thr current system just cant cope with it. It needs to change before it reaches breaking point if it hasn't already.

sure they tell staff every day mail is down especially letters and everyone knows who,s telling lie,s.
You get two bags on your LWT, if I can fit it in the bag I take it, the driver does the same so where possible only one of us goes to each address. It means he has less special calls to make. The way we work, if he finishes 1st he helps me on my loop, if I finish first I help him. We work as a team. If we have to cut off to do Specials, he drops me at one while he goes to do another, works for us, If we don't have time to finish we cut off. Shouldn't be giving RM ideas for how to cut duties, they have enough silly ideas of their own.

Yes, the size of the rounds is the issue, not the breaking down of the job itself. Also working on your own is not necessarily quicker, for the same reason, management often break down p and l rounds down when short staffed and give you the harder 'half'!

If that were to ever happen RM would probably axe over half the jobs in DOs and virtually all DO staff would be part time and the RDC and MC network would probably vanish. The parcels are what is keeping you and every other RM employee in a job. What if another company was to come along and do what Whistl done for a while, what would you deliver then? Everyone would be out of a job

Have you opened an amazon box lately.
Loads of leaflets fall out.
