Royal Mail opens ten temporary sort centres

Royal Mail is opening ten temporary parcel sort centres for the Christmas period to handle a a significant proportion of its seasonal parcels.

Some 3,000 seasonal workers will be based in the parcel sort centres. They will support Royal Mail’s permanent 123,000 postmen and women.

The parcel sort centres are in Bathgate in West Lothian, Bradford, Leyland in Lancashire, Wolverhampton, Newport in Gwent, Swindon, Greenford, Peterborough, Bletchley in Milton Keynes and Heathrow. The centres will open on a phased basis from 2nd November.

Royal Mail Group is taking on around 19,000 seasonal workers in total this year across its operations.

This is the fifth year that Royal Mail has opened a dedicated network of parcel sort centres. The use of additional temporary parcel sort centres is now an integral part of Royal Mail’s strategy for the Christmas peak.

MCs need extra staff as the same space and equipment that is used to sort inward mail is also used to sort outward mail

A personal view but I don't like casual/agency staff on delivery , some look like worsel gummedge, others smoke whilst delivering not a good look for our strong brand in my humble opinion
