After the hysteria late on Friday of the court injunction followed closely by the possibility of an agreement being reached we are now in a position of wait and see.

The PEC have met over the last two days and made / carries amendments to the proposed document.

Dave Ward and the negotiating team will now meet with Royal Mail to present the unionâ€™s version of the final settlement.

Following this meeting the PEC will reconvene and cast the final vote on whether to accept or reject Royal Mails offer. If the PEC votes to accept the agreement then it will then be put out a full membership vote by post.

I know that members will be worried about the amount of time that progressing this deal is taking but we must remember that the stakes are very high!

Our futures are at stake and the PEC must take this as seriously as possible and go through things with a fine toothcomb. As always as soon as we have any further developments we will relay them to you ASAP.

The problem is this, while they go through the 'agreement' with their fine toot comb RM are clearing the backlog. So if the pec reject the agreement, as i have said many times, we are back to square one and have to give seven days notice again!

The pec are backing themselves into a corner of their own making. They must know that if they delay a decision then the backlog will diminish. So they must also know that the only way we can return to the same backlog is to have another 48 hour strike.

Even the strongest member is going to react to this.
I can just see it now.

Below is pure fantasy with a possible insight to the future!

Well Mr Ward the pec have rejected the agreement, where do you go from here?

His answer well the pec has considered the options and has decided on a 48 hr strike.

Backs comes another question..MR Ward 'will you be keeping the pec on hand in case you come to another agreement during the strike'.

His reply ' No there is no need, they can all go home and if possible we would like it if they can turn up the day after an agreement.

They can stroll in in the afternoon and we will try and fit talks in around lunch and before the pubs open'.

Have to say its all becoming a bit of a farce all this!First question which must be asked is why the PEC did not meet over the weekend to go through the agreement reached late on Friday night.
All this delay is helping RM to clear the backlog once again and guess what if it is rejected we are back to square one and all for what!!!Nine days of strikes lead to nowt,heads should roll for the complete incompetence of setting up the ballot timetable to RM,this is the second time it as happened in this dispute where we have had to cancel Industrial action.
Im the local rep at our office and believe me i will have my work cut out to convince members to go out again,i have lost any faith in this leadership of our union when this is over serious questions must be asked on how this dispute as been handled.

I totally agree that questions must be asked .. I am having a terrible time keeping my lot motivated. BUT .. at this present time .. our hands are tied. We must back our Exec or we will be playing right into the hands of the R.M. Stay united .. see what this latest outcome is & then the serious questions can be asked about the leadership of our Union. A new breed of leadership must be installed at Wimbledon .. enough is enough .. BUT now is not the time!

The issue of backlog is debatable. We are now right on the brink of peak mail times. Any strike at any time will cause a massive backlog. With each passing day our strength grows with Christmas looming!! Royal Mail have spent million on their xmas adverts. Imagine what a farce they'd look if we took action

When the PEC finally make a statement we will know whether they have done the right thing or not. These are the people WE elect. How many people on here didn't even bother to vote in the last elections??

This PEC is the result of (a) lack of membership interest and (b) Dependent on where you live not what you know.

Until that changes we will always be in a position where when leaders are needed all we have are followers.

I appreciate all that you post!
I also support the leadership except i don't like being kept in the dark!
They could have made a brief statement as to what the sticking points were.
No information, offical that is, leads to frustration and anger!

The biggest stumbling block is the way the agreement was announced, Dave and Billy have backed themselves into a corner with little room to manouvre. If they have to go back to Royal Mail for ammendments, having agreed in principle, then all negotiating credibility goes out of the window.

If things had got to the point where there was no more give or juggling of figures left to be done, then they should of said 'well if that is your final offer and you are refusing to budge any further, then we will put it to the PEC and then the membership.

Saying you have a joint agreement turns any decision by the PEC and the membership into a vote of confidence. This makes the stakes very high for the leadership but on the other hand it is likely to act as a check and balance for any PEC member that is thinking of voting against.

Only recommend this agreement if you truly feel it is a good one for the membership.

The stakes for the members are a lot higher than personal credibility.

Strike up to and around Xmas chaps, and then the public's sympathy will evaporate quicker than an ice cube in the Sahara! Just think all those letters/packages not getting to our boys (and girls) in Iraq and Afghanistan... great PR...

Royal Mail Dispute

Further negotiations took place last week between the CWU and Royal Mailâ€™s Chief Executive Adam Crozier. Following those negotiations proposed terms to settle the dispute were presented to the Postal Executive over the last two days.

The TUC General Secretary Brendan Barber has now invited both parties for a further meeting so that the CWU can clarify the remaining outstanding issues. In light of these developments it was also agreed to suspend the current round of industrial action.
