Christmas Casuals continuing on after the 12 weeks is up?

Post by BusterWD »

Hi, recently applied as a 'Christmas Casual' through Reed but after talking to some guys I was working with I've realized the pay goes up quite a bit after 12 weeks of employment, but the casual employment was only listed as 12 weeks. The woman who interviewed me said I could continue on after my allotted time if I wanted but I want to make sure. Can I continue working for RM through Angard after the 12 weeks? Thanks

Yes you can, the pay goes up from week 13 because of the Agency Workers Regulations, you want to research it so that you know how if affects you personally. There is plenty of material on here and on the internet.

You can, but Angard have far more staff than they can find regular work for already and their constant recruitment damages opportunities for everyone. New staff seem to get more shifts than those who have served the 12 week period, although that might just me being cynical. Check some of the earlier threads to see how they are regarded.

Alright thanks for the info, also do you have to work every week inside the 12 week period leading up to the pay rise? Because this week I can't work for two days and the only shift available is on one of them, will I be penalised for this?

As far as I understand it you just have to complete a total of 12 paid weeks, but if you look up the AWR rules you should find the answer there. Very few people work for 12 consecutive weeks so it could take a while to hit the mark. Some people who worked last Christmas didn't get any more shifts for several months afterward, people who've worked for Angard for more than a year can go several weeks between shifts. It's unpredictable.
