My experience so far... but hanging on in there... :)

Hi all

Newbie here. Thought I would contribute and add my experience and hopefully also get some feedback too :)

My journey started out in April 2015 when I applied for a job as a PostPerson with Driving. I passed the online tests and later went for an interview. The interview lasted for an hour or so, which I heard back later I had passed. I was asked to send off my picture for my ID and then later heard that my security checks had come back clear. At that point it was July 2015. I was then told within seven days I would hear about an induction date. I didn't hear anything for a month so I contacted HR who said the job I had applied for had been withdrawn. However, as I was at the level required, I was now on the waiting list and I should apply for other jobs with "Waiting List Candidate" added to any email application. That's where my application for a job and my understanding of the process has become a little muddled.

Im told that I can only apply for one job at a time. But when you email HR about a job/position you might not get a reply for weeks so you have no idea if you have got the job you applied for or not. Therefore you dont know if you should apply for a different position or not. I also totally feel for HR who at this time of the year must be totally manic! so I totally understand this.

Im coming to think that its a bad time of year for the likes of myself to get a job and maybe likely to be so until spring time? At the moment Royal Mail is taking on lots of Christmas casuals. I have been offered temporary work locally through an agency (not Angard) but I cant take this up as I have a family so cant risk giving up my current job for one that might only be two or three days a week. I think that Christmas casuals are more likely to hear about and get any permanent jobs after Christmas more than I am likely to being on the "waiting list"?

Despite all of the above, I really want to work for Royal Mail and as I said will hang on in there until I get a job. Even though Christmas is fast approaching I may even consider taking the risk of giving up my current job to do the part-time/casual agency work as again I really want to do the job.

Would be great to hear from anyone who has got to the point Im at and then got a job or advice.

Many kind thanks in advance :)
