Re: workload to resourse
I remember when the spans went up to 3.5 hours back in 2004. we thought then it was a massive change in our workload and I distinctly remember saying at the time...''well look on the bright side lads,..there's nothing more they can do to us''!!! HA, how wrong was i.
....since then they've put our start times back, increased the spans twice more...up to 4hrs then 4.45...removed the d2d cap. changed our shift patterns and stole our 9 day fortnites/3 weeks on one off. put us back on a 5 day week(cos THEY didn't like it). introduced park and loop. now they are looking at INCREASING THE SPANS AGAIN.....I love this company.

daveyeff wrote:both reps today were on about the recent national meeting at York regarding this WTR, they say RM are looking a scrapping the length of the delivery span, effectively making it possible to be delivering for the whole of you're shift. some people said it was garbage, others said it was scaremongering. I think its a bit of both....as usual Bob Gibsons name came up whenever they seem to be agreeing to bollox. anyways questions came in left right and centre.... where are they going to find the extra work, after all, the mail is declining. answer....when people go sick or are on annual leave, the duties will be shared out. (what are reserves for?) the delivery span can only be as long as our actual working day, less the time it takes for sorting, prepping, loading vans, van checks, conveyance,...not forgetting 40mins meal break.....answer.....they are looking at ''blitzing'' the indoor work so that we come in pick up the mail and go straight out????? they couldn't answer that one. what are the health implications of 6 or 7 hr deliveries...answer,,it hasn't been thought through yet, that's why they've put a stage one disagreement in. why is Bob Gibson agreeing to all this shite....answer,,dont know...are we going to get a vote on these radicall changes?..answer ,,,don't know.....YOU COULDNT MAKE THIS SHITE UP.
Go back to the 2010 agreement . Where the most damming thing is that the delivery span is an 'enabler'
That actually means that you can be on delivery for as long as RM decide

Re: workload to resourse
unlimited spans were not agreed. this is what the reps have put the disagreement in for....in that 2010 agreement it clearly states, spans will no longer be an objective in itself. instead office revisions should look to define a set of revision objectives in line with the delivery process and then NEGOTIATE AND AGREE a duty span/structure. .....anyways the area and divisional reps and some big gun from headquarters are coming on the 13th of next month, so find out then.

Ok. I know I have highlighted one bit.daveyeff wrote:unlimited spans were not agreed. this is what the reps have put the disagreement in for....in that 2010 agreement it clearly states, spans will no longer be an objective in itself. instead office revisions should look to define a set of revision objectives in line with the delivery process and then NEGOTIATE AND AGREE a duty span/structure. .....anyways the area and divisional reps and some big gun from headquarters are coming on the 13th of next month, so find out then.
But , to me and maybe I am wrong. RM and CWU and therefore members agreed to uncap (sic) the delivery span.
The negotiation and agreement of a duty span structure is what?
If it is an 'enabler' ; then there is no limit
If it is a negotiated (really?) thing then why is the term enabler used?

Re: workload to resourse
to 'enable' DO,s to set their own duty structures and span lengths as RM and CWU did not want to commit to an 'exact' span length. this way each and every office could build their own duties when the revisions became live.....so the A/R says.

Re: workload to resourse
most offices have span lengths. our is 4.45. the area rep says this new way of working (if it comes to fruition) will reduce deliveries which currently stands at 68000 nationally, to 43000. now its not rocket science. if these plans for 6 or 7 hr deliveries do come about. then the extra work is going to come from the 25000 deliveries they plan to get rid of. you would think the union would be opposing this from the very beginning, because if it does happen,,,,then the unions subs will be down by 25000 members each week.

They better do something because who could walk for 6-7 hours every day it's about time the CWU listened to the delivery postmen/women!

Re: workload to resourse
there was a few at the office today, 2 DSMs, Div rep, Area rep, and a guy from the executive. they were going round talking to staff. I asked the union guy from hq if there was any truth about these 6/7 hr deliveries. he said 'YES' its what royal mail want..however...its not an immediate threat and its being looked at in depth first. I asked where is the work coming from, he said other duties, so it would mean redundancies. I asked about the health and safety implications. he said, its all got to be looked at. the duties are stand alone duties. driver only. so it would mean no passenger postie. he said it will all come about from the intro of these 'solystic' machines which can sort 95% of all mail and flats, and small packets, and can collate d2ds....will we get a vote I asked, he said of course you's will. and he said it will obviously NOT be voted in, and the union will be fighting it all the way. he said they will then try to bring it in by executive action which in turn would trigger industrial action. all this has a time span of approximately 5 yrs from the machines coming in to completion of the transformation. looks like a bumpy ride ahead then.

If they are 'fighting it all the way' then why are area reps putting forward nigh on identical plans?daveyeff wrote:and the union will be fighting it all the way. he said they will then try to bring it in by executive action which in turn would trigger industrial action. all this has a time span of approximately 5 yrs from the machines coming in to completion of the transformation. looks like a bumpy ride ahead then.

Re: workload to resourse
obviously he was lying on the unions stance on it. seems like they have accepted defeat and are quite happy to be allowed to exist.
