I think the rumour mill has gone into overdrive.
The delivery span became an "enabler" in BT2010 - effectively ending the set delivery span.
Lapsing/absorbing duties to cover sick absence is also old hat.

Who has put in a stage 1 disagreement? About what?
What shite exactly has Bob Gibson agreed to?

If one wave becomes a reality it will mean mail arriving later at the DO.
How then will anyone be able to do a 6/7 hour delivery and finish by 3pm?
Who is doing the "blitzing"?

I have never seen a post so full of rumour.

I'm currently on a 4:30 delivery span, which 9 times out of 10 is nearer 5 to 5 and a half hours! Don't fancy a 6 hour span which is nearer 7 or 8hrs! You'd need a double decker HCT to fit all the mail and packets in!

how many "foot posties" are in the cwu? i know a few who aren't, some pulled out some never joined.
there are 1000's in the cwu who can vote on proposals that has little or no impact on their job, also may improve it yet know some will have more work thrust upon them and quite rightly get a vote otherwise we'd have every office trying to cut deals.
that's the system and be wrong to change it without splitting the union (what's left of it) into groups,
the trouble is now, most are disillusioned with the job and the union that's supposed to support us its now everyone for themselves.
you mentioned unlimited d2ds, i wonder how many collection driver members were rubbing their hands at getting the £20 odd delivery supplement and maybe not even touching them whilst the regular postie got shafted on d2ds and now we are also doing that job, and yes i know some say the old d2d payments and delivery supplement aren't related, but we all know they are.
and of course the union are protecting jobs

Unless they are tagged to a Delivery office, collection drivers don't get the Delivery Supplement. In my DO about 50% do, but they have to specific delivery function work to qualify. The others are tagged to the MC as a Collection Hub and get only the MC supplement.

In my personal opinion, and I know this will get jumped on by some senior reps, but I believe the CWU is not protecting FT duties, but protecting FT subs. At some point in the very near future (2-3 years at the outside IMHO) they will have to reduce the working week, or make changes to the outside element. RMs job is get as much work out of us as possible, the Unions is not to protect FT jobs, but to protect their members interests even if that has a deleterious effect on the Union cash flow.

I'll also reiterate what I have said on here for years, officers and Full time release reps no matter how well-intentioned, or how well-informed, or even if they are in touch with their members, will never understand members concerns fully until they have experienced it. I started just over 11 years ago in this job, and in that relatively short time the job has changed beyond all recognition. However, I do understand why people will disagree.

the rep says he has put in a stage 1 disagreement, and he showed us the email he got back. it was about the health and safety implications of delivering for 6 or 7 hours. now whether this is rumour or not, I don't know,,,i wasn't at the meeting at York. if the one wave comes in, we wont be starting until it comes in. (so we've been told) so it will be an even later start. and 4pm finishes for residential has also reared its head. the 'blitzing' was mentioned again by the rep......now as I said..i think its a bit of garbage and scaremongering. but this is what both reps have come out with.

that will be a problem "At some point in the very near future (2-3 years at the outside IMHO)" that there are far too many experienced FT leaving, and temp or 20-ish hour staff joining who don't join the union, and if they ask are told "i wouldn't bother, buy a pint instead"
if you think the workload to resource is bad now, wait a couple of years, it ain't going to get any better that's for sure

This is all linked to walk optimisation and is dependent on Royal Mail purchasing new machinery which will have 90% of all mail sequenced or walk sorted including flats and small parcels.

It is the Norway model. The delivery would be in two waves similar to two deliveries when you had 2:5 hour first and 2:5 second.

None of this has been agreed with the union including mails optimisation other than the trail .

This is Royal Mail's strategy , as with all strategies it will be negotiated with the union and like the union has always done they will look at protecting jobs , conditions etc and you will be if and it is a big if asked to vote on any agreement.

And how does the cwu feel about its members dropping like flies & having unbearable workloads?
We do not want bigger deliveries! We are already getting physically ruined by 4-5 hour deliveries!

Posties are dropping like flies...

I know posties that are physically and mentally drained every day..... if increasing work loads happen...

Which would be disastrous for delivery...

There be no one left to do delivery...

I honestly think the voting makes no difference to RM's plans,if the vote isn't what they want it will be either ignored or altered.

the rep said he's had a right ding dong with the area rep today regarding the stage 1 disagreement. its now went to stage 2. the A/R said he AND the dsm cant understand why he's put in a disagreement.....ffs. its obvious they don't do deliveries. he said part of royal mails strategy is reducing deliveries which currently stands at 68000 nationally, down to 45000 in the next few years.

This is how the IR framework works:
RM put a proposal to the rep. He confers with his members and if they have legitimate concerns about it it he puts in a disagreement.
What concrete proposal have RM put to your rep for him to put in a disagreement?

this is what the rep says:-..that's exactly WHY its in the framework. because they were told jointly at the 3 day meeting at York that moving the spans is agreed with royal mail and CWU in the 60 selected trial offices....hence why its in the framework is because we haven't had a say in it.
