hi all
I've been a postie now for a couple of weeks, but its been hard work from the start was never trained by a workplace coach i was basically given bags of mail and told what roads to deliver too,so i feel a little let down. The walk I'm on has 750 delivery points and one of the quickest posties here couldn't complete it on a heavy day so I'm doing my best every day but not completing, apparently my office has a failed revision.Im getting pressure from certain managers and I'm worried about losing my job but i really am doing my best every day I'm virtually running round.
After waiting 14 weeks to get in royal mail i really don't want my contract to not be renewed,I'm giving a 100%
any advice is very much welcome
thanks in advance guys

That sounds rubbish
.
Can you speak to the workplace coach about it? It sounds like you've had a crappy walk dumped on you. If you can't complete it then you can't complete it! My only advice would be to stick with it. I was told to stick with it for 6 weeks as no-one likes it initially and that was by the DOM!

Sounds about right, stick the newbie on the crap round.
Don't run round to try and complete but do think if it can be done a quicker way, slightly tweaking the route to suit you can often shave time off.
Ask how long the delivery is expected to take, are you prepping as well as that takes time to get up to speed. Don't worry about losing your job, they're short staffed and Xmas is coming, they need everyone.

I've got 427 delivery points on a cushy round but of course could be moved at any time!

427 that sounds lovely haha I'm hoping I get put on a more manageable round,or they reduce the one I'm on because if it's too much for the full timers then what chance have I got

You really need the Trainer and the Union on Board - your manager is being an arse (and it's not often I use that phrase on them).
You are a brand new starter so there is no way you will be delivering as fast as an experienced postie. The managers know this, as does everyone. They have a training budget to cover such situations.
The reason you need Union and trainer involvement is that the manager is displaying actions bordering on bullying. They CANNOT DEMAND you stay out till the delivery is done, though they can suggest it. If you wish to finish on time, you are allowed to do so. However, there is an expectation that if you take it out with you, then as long as there are no out of the ordinary incidents that delay you, you will deliver what you leave the office with.
Read up on the Overrunning delivery Procedures in downloads and follow them religiously, however the best rule of thumb is if won't be able to complete tell your manager as soon as you are aware, even if you are willing to complete the delivery (or not) this will keep them fully informed.
As to speeding up, don't worry about it. Once you are used to a round you will after 6 - 8 weeks be surprised how quick you have become. Even just knowing where the delivery points are saves time. An example using your 750 delivery points, if you have to think where the letterbox is each time, and if it only takes 1 second to remember, that's nearly 13 minutes extra time.
Mine is 630+ when I started it took me 4 - 4:30 hours - now I am averaging about 3:20 - 3:40 (pre-DM remember)
