Questions From A New Rep

Hello,

I'm a pretty new rep and I do spend alot of my own time visiting members who are off sick, which I really don't mind but would branches normally pay me millage for this?

Why are you visiting them at home? Any work you do as a Rep should be done in the office in works time.

I'm guessing some of us as reps don't mind putting in the extra effort outside of work to help members

Thanks guys :-) yeah I was at a members house for 3 hrs the other day,he did feed me lots of cakes and coffee so that's my perk :-)

If you have a colleague off with a complicated medical condition, how do you find out about it without actually going and asking them?
If the rep simply waits until the stage 1/2/3 meeting and then starts trying to find out if it is a long term condition that should be covered under the EA or if it is a side effect of another complaint, then it is no wonder so many people get issued warnings when they shouldn't.
If you are representing people with heart conditions, diabetes, asthma or whatever you need to educate yourself first and who better to educate you than the person with the condition?
And isn't education and self improvement a corner stone of the trade union movement.

The question isn't "Why are you visiting them at home?"
The question is Why don't all reps visit their members at home? (Allowing for geography and invitation)

Can you transfer to our D/O?
Our area rep is usually too full up on cakes bought by the manager to bother chatting to us, as for mileage, I've known reps be given a van to use, though doubt they'll be any spare now as I regularly see managers loading their cars up because there's that many posties left the business they have to do our jobs too.
