Permanent
Started working for Royal Mail 22/05/2015 on a 3 month temporary contract , had it renewed till 22/11 which was fine . Went into work today and received a letter informing me that Royal Mail have made my contract permanent . I am very pleased with this result .

Re: Permanent
That's great news. I started on Monday on a 3 month fixed term contract. I have to be honest I'm hoping for the same outcome, fingers crossed.

Re: Permanent
That's good to know. I'm a new starter - just over a month - and I've been wondering if there could be a 'regular' job for me on a 20 hour contract or whether I'd have to work longer hours to get anything decent.

I'm in week 11 of 13 week contract. Haven't heard anything yet! Don't know whether to mention it to Management or just stay under the radar and turn up on week 14!

Re: Permanent
Only you know how approachable your own manager is. However, if they wish to let you go at the end of the contract there is a notice period they have to observe. In RM, it is usual practice for the contract to keep rolling over till they send you another one. I have only very rarely heard of people being released at the end of their first temporary period.peshwaarinaan wrote:I'm in week 11 of 13-week contract. Haven't heard anything yet! Don't forget though if they don't send you a contract but you continue working for them then they still have to comply with the notice periods, leave entitlements, pay policy etc just as though you had signed a contract, they only difference is that until they send you a contract its considered as open-ended. If they don't send you a new contract and by some mirical you are still working for them after 4 years you are then considered permanent by default, and should be treated as such.

Re: Permanent
I started on the 24/8/2015 and two weeks ago i was told by dom that i would be made permanent, i was told that he had received an email stating that all temp staff would be made perm. Not sure if true and have not asked other new starters if they have also received new perm contract.

Re: Permanent
Blimey some of us are still on rolling contracts after the first years trial! In my office plenty still on temp contracts several years later. I think the only difference is the notice period is longer on a permanent contract plus you can take unpaid leave without losing your job but other than that I'm not sure what the difference is. Be interested if this is nationwide!
