I went for an interview on Tuesday this week and got the email today that told me I have been unsuccesful. I really thought the interview went really well. I have delivery experience, have a clean driving licence, fit and healthy and thought i had a good connection with the interviewer. I am shocked and feel gutted that i have been unsuccesful. I am 48. Does my age go against me being female. I just thought i had all the attributes for this job.
ny ideas anyone why i was so unsuccesful. I wasnt even put on a list, it was a simply no.

in Royal Mail your age and gender should have no bearing on your ability to do the job - there are a few ladies in their 60s at Huddersfield and plenty in their mid 50s, and on here we have one or two new starters that are older than your good self.

Without being at the interview its difficult to say what made your application unsuccessful, but as the interview processes for any job is fairly subjective, I would continue to apply for other positions as they come up.

Hi thanks for replying. One of the questions was think if a situation when you have calmed someone down. Maybe my answer wasnt what he wanted to hear or maybe its my delivering experience I have already had, ie. Yellow pages, phone book etc. Perhaps he thinks Im a dishonest person for doing that as an exftra at the time, but it was all above board. I would have thought though delivering experience would stand me in good stead, obviously not. I am still feelibg gutted because this job would have been ideal for me and I would have been a loyal employee. Its just very strange why I have got a no, not even on the list. Just a no... Does this happen often as I still think the interview went well myself.

I've been with Royal Mail only just over a month but one thing I've learned is there is often very little logic in situations. The lack/standard of communication is unbelievable. Fair enough, everyone at our office says it has never been as bad as it is now and it used to be much better and they're in chaos now, yet the day-to-day running of the place - I can only say wow!!!
My experience of getting the job - equally unexplainable at the time - now makes sense, if that kind of thing was going on in the background!

It must be really upsetting and difficult not to take it personally but I would take TBT's advice above. If your heart is set on the job then just keep applying. I think you can re-apply after a month from the interview date.
Good luck!!!

It said on the e-mail not to apply again for 6 months. Do you think it may be a good idea to e-mail them and ask for feedback as I really thought the interview went well. Obviously the guy interviewing me didnt... Would it be a bit too 'stalker-ish' to go in the S.O. and ask to see him or even phone him? Will that maybe put them off for future potential opportunities do you think?

Would definitely ask for feedback - as far as I know it pretty much the norm these days to ask for it in interviews for all levels of jobs.

As mentioned above - I don't think age has owt to do with it - they took me on at 53 five years ago ! I would like to think - nay hope to think - gender had no bearing on the decision - but obviously I can't answer that one.

Go for the feedback - and take it from there ... and good luck - tbh I'm amazed that - with Christmas coming up - they're turning peeps down (especially as so many offices are completely understaffed anyway !) ... maybe try a DO close by ?
"We're under model" - oh no we're not - stick your lapse elsewhere ...
