There's your answer. Why would the DOM increase your contract hours when he's got people happily doing the hours anyway?
Guess you're either a full-timer or are happy with your part-time hours then.
In our offices, if we didn't do the available overtime the full-timers would do it anyway.
In our office, if we, the part timers didn't do the overtime, trust me, there would b an awful lot of mail & packets left in the frames for days on end because the full timers (or vast majority of them) don't want the overtime. They slready get enough overtime completing their own duties!!
Think its an absolute joke the way part timers are treated as regards our contracts compared to the hours we do. The CWU know it goes on up & down the country & has done for years, & despite the agreements that are in place, what do they do?? F**king bu*ger all

so what did your manager say when you asked him in writing that you would like your contracted hours reviewed?
and what did your cwu rep say when you also asked him in writing to pursue the same thing?

No, why would you think that? I'm part time and pretty desperate to get a full time contract. All I'm saying is put yourself in the DOM's shoes. People are working overtime and all the work is getting done, why would you want to increase peoples contracts and pay them more when they are off sick or on holiday? If people got together and agreed to cut the overtime they did, then the DOM might realise that the only was to get the work done was to give people proper contracts.
The only fair way to increase a part timers hours is by seniority any other way is not fair to the senior part timers who are stuck on a part time round, whilst the newcomers without a regular walk can get put on a full time walk that hasn't been advertised,we have the situation in our office where the brown noser's are put on a easy full time round that has become vacant because the full timer has retired and instead of advertising the job so everyone has a fair chance they are put on it so they can jump the seniority queue.

Sorry mate, misunderstood. Thought you were defending the situation.
Fat chance of any full-timers giving a s**t about us.
Heres one . Helped one get SA last week we don't have it normally , and their hours made up around a year ago.
Some FT are arses some aren't, and the same can be said for PT, managers, board members, politicians, men, women - basically I take everyone at face value and give them the benefit of the doubt. Have been caught a few times but then they learned their error when they asked for help further down the line.

If you have a 50/50 split in the office, you only need one apathetic or one sympathetic full timer and you can choose the rep.
Democracy is a wonderful thing.
When i asked my manager, he said there is not a chance because RM just wants people on PT contracts. I asked the delivery rep & he said he would look in2 it but wouldn't promise anything. Not happy wiv either of the two of them so i got in touch with the area rep & am awaiting his response. Iv'e contacted him b4 & he took over 2 weeks to reply saying he was pushing for things too happen on this front. Needless 2 say, i didnt hear anything more from him. I don't expect an increase in my contracted hours but ive got 2 at least try. Just dont understand having an agreement if the CWU r powerless to make the RM do anything about it! Its not really an agreement then is it?!

Currently we (allegedly) have 3 F/T vacancies. Management have agreed to make 3 P/T's up as long as they are "flexible with their days off". Ie; Tuesdays. They have said no, so the situation continues. All the P/T staff currently work F/T hours. If all P/T staff (10 in my office) started at their correct time, every single one would eventually get unconditional F/T contracts as there is not enough manpower to cover the work.

There is no allegedly there either is or isn't vacancies, your dom can't cut hours in the office without agreement, if the vacancies have been there for 6 months they should be filled straight away same as if the total of vacancies are over 5% of staff

If the part-timers in our office didn't do the overtime it would be done by either the full-timers or by staff from other offices (which is happening many times). Maybe the time has come for the Union to call for a total overtime ban, if this would force the hand of RM to increase the contracts of part-timers.
