Crown pay ballot papers going out

Post Office counter staff will be receiving ballot papers in the next few days to vote on a pay offer, which is expected to be confirmed by the business early next week.

Andy Furey Explaining the slightly unusual circumstances, CWU assistant secretary Andy Furey said: "The business has consistently promised that a 1.9 per cent pay rise (backdated to April 1st 2015) and a £500 lump-sum network transformation payment will be on the table as soon as its own 'run-rate of break-even' criteria have been met.

"For several months now, the Post Office has assured us that it is on target to achieve this and that this will be formally announced this month."

Post Office It is, therefore, necessary for the union to open the ballot process now, in order that the monies can be paid into end-of-October salaries in the event of a Yes vote.

"This is unusual, but if we waited until the formal confirmation, we would then have been unable to complete the ballot process in time for the pay-roll deadline," Andy said, adding that this has been fully approved by the CWU executive.

"We are, of course, strongly recommending a 'Yes' vote in the ballot."

Setting out the reasons for the recommendation, Andy said: "This is a one-year pay agreement, a fully consolidated 1.9 per cent pay increase backdated to April 1st, there are no strings attached, it is above-inflation (RPI) and matches the pay agreement received by our Supply Chain and Admin members for the same period.

"Our members have been waiting very patiently for their pay increase, which is well-deserved."

The ballot will open tomorrow (Friday October 9) and close on Monday October 19.
