20hrs a week

Post by djtezz »

Hi,

Looking into becoming a postie but the 20hr part time hours worry me. Is this a standard week these days or would there always be overtime? i would need 35-40hrs as per my job now.

Thanks

It depends on the office. Since I started also on part-time hours I've never worked less than a full-time week and I am a full-time employee now (that's a 39hr week). Our current new starters are also on 20 hrs over 5 days and I don't see how the company can expect that to be possible do do - I've seen them start at the same time as the full-timers and also finish at the same time so I assume they are also doing a full week, though I have not spoken to them much yet.

It may not be the same in your area though. It may be that where you are applying for is much better staffed than at our place. If you see a postman out on the rounds in your area, just ask him what it's like.

I'm on 20 hours a week but I work with a full-timer so always go over. There is loads of OT in my office. I don't work Mondays and Tuesdays but they wanted me to.

Just into week 4 of my 20-hour over 5-days 6-month contract !!

Every day I work as 'full time' ! In fact, typically last out of the LDO and last back!!! I may be new but the job is not that complicated, just volume of mail on a daily basis. Always 1-3 hours above the documented duty hours but paid the overtime for the actual hours worked.

My LDO seems fair and reasonable....at least so far....

My issue is, I a, not sure I want to work 'full time'...

Seems it really is down to the LDO and DOM...I have a good one...
Life is what you make it.......I make mine my own.
