Hi there,
I have worked for Royal Mail back in 2012.
I applied for a job with Royal Mail, had my interview, "got the job" but have just received this email...
"We regret to inform you that your application for employment with Royal Mail Group is unable to progress.
Our checks have revealed information that does not meet the standards for employment required by Royal Mail Group during the stage 1 checks of our security vetting process."
I am extremely annoyed that there is no more information then this.
I have not got a criminal record, in fact - i've recently had a DBS done in the last 2 weeks which came back clear as crystal.
The only thing I think it could be is that my attendance was not too good back when I worked for RM back in 2012 because of the death of my father... and at the time, i remember this being coded as sickness.
Now, to top this all off! I have just received a text from an ex-colleague who works at Royal Mail still and he's said: "When are you starting?! Your name is on the board with a list of new starters!"
Has anyone else faced this problem? Seen this problem? Could it be an error?
Do i have right to appeal? And what are the chances of getting a job?
Do i have a number to contact? The HR team say "they can't help" and that there are no details for the recruitment team.
Thanks in advance,

Re: Failed Security Check
I am guessing that you failed on the first stage, if so thats a bummer/
What is a security vetting check?
The check is in two parts
–
Stage 1 is a check against a register of debarred individuals
who have previously worked for Royal Mail and a check against our Recruitment Risk
Register to check for individuals who have committed a crime against Royal Mail. Stage 2
is a basic disclosure check for unspent criminal conviction/s and is completed by a supplier
of Royal Mail.

Re: Failed Security Check
Do we know of any reasons why someone would be debarred from working for RM?
Is attendance one of them? 'cos that might explain it...

A normal attendance record wouldn't, everyone gets stage ones. You know the aches and pains we get as posties, but a stage 3 might. Did it go that far, also if you jumped before being pushed, or even got pushed then I would suspect it was.
