Fact finding

Post by char1ie »

Hi. Can someone tell me what I can do if a fact finding meeting didn't take place within 2 days of the event?

It doesn't have to, as long as the inital chat has been had within 48hrs then the fact finding can be any reasonable time after.

The answer to both questions lie in the context of each situation.

There could be a reasonable explanation as to why a fact finding meeting didn't happen, and it also depends on the details, severity and complexity of the case.

As to the initial chat, if you are suspended then the chat has probably already taken place and the investigation is ongoing. If you have'nt had a chat then how do you know they are conducting a fact finding.

Yes - at the moment if rumours are true (though they seldom are), then until the official process starts they can do their own informal investigations to see if there is any substance to the allegations/charges/suspicions.

If there is no case then nothing will happen, and perhaps nothing will be said. It will be as though nothing happened.

If there is a case then they will at some point have to instigate formal proceedings and then you should be kept informed as per the relevant agreements. The fact finding interview/chat would normally be the first official part of the process that the concerned individual will be part of.

Of course each case is different and even with specific information each case may and will be handled differently by different managers.
