The incident happened yesterday morning in Torquay and blocked the pavement until the Royal Mail could right the red monolith.
A spokesman for the police said the incident in Torwood Street was reported at 9.23am.
She said: "A white Volvo van registered to an address in Manchester collided with a postbox.
"The area has been made safe with cones and Royal Mail has been informed."
