Those Sealskinz aren't waterproof according to reviews. And I've got the beanie hat by them and that soaks through. Bit of a sham considering the price and the fact its a British company.
I might just get a couple pairs of these - http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Wearproof-Wat ... 487ddd7d12" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

Re: Winter Gloves!
As already said keep your core and head warm and you hands are more likely to stay warm. No matter how thick the gloves you put on if you are cold inside your blood will withdraw from your hands and feet and they will get cold.
As for gloves I'd say get the cheap Thinsulate ones and cut the ends off the index and forefinger on one hand. If you literally just snip the end off you can pretty much just expose the tips of your fingers and that's all you need to work your mail.
Also if you carry two pairs when one gets wet take them off and put on the dry pair!
