According to a large sign fixed to the red post box outside the Co-Op in Queen Square, Penzance, the issue of dogs urine represents a "significant health and safety risk"

If the problem continues, the Royal Mail will have "no choice" but to close the box permantently to "preserve the health and safety of our staff."

Lucy Wilson, head of delivery at the Royal Mail in Penzance, said in the notice: "We have a health and safety issue with the number of digs urinating against the box situated outside the Co-Op at Queens Square - box number 94.

"It is a significant health and safety risk.

"If it continues we will have no choice but the close the box permantently to preserve the health and safety of our staff."

Terrible. If I have a piss behind a box I get suspended. Really unfair. The thing is, once one piss is there you get plenty more, as the next yapping mongrel sniffs and if detects a piss does one itself to cover it over and so-on.

Penzance Postbox to stay open after sign removed

The sign sparked an outcry of public opinion after being uploaded to The Cornishman's Facebook page

A notice on a Penzance post-box, that threatened to close the box for "health and safety" issues after dogs kept urinating on it, has been removed.

The Royal Mail had placed the sign upon the post-box outside the Co-Op store in Queens Square, which stated that local dogs had been urinating upon it.

It also said that if this continued the Royal Mail would have 'no choice' but to permanently close the service in order to 'preserve the health and safety of staff'.

It is believed The Royal Mail were concerned that the dog urine was soiling mail within the box as it was apparently seeping through the door's hinges.

The sign read: "Please note:

"We have Health and Safety issue with a number of dogs urinating against the box situated towards The Co-Op at Queens Square -box number 94.

"It is a significant Health and Safety Risk

"If it continues, we will have no choice but to close the box permanently to preserve the health and safety of our staff.

"Lucy Wilson, Delivery Manager, Royal Mail, Penzance."

It has now been learnt that The Royal Mail have removed the notice and that the post-box will remain open, however they would encourage the owners of dogs to act more responsibly.

Updates to follow.
