Child and her dog in Bristow allegedly pepper sprayed by postal worker
Police said there have been issues with loose dogs in the area
Residents said a mail carrier was bitten last week

An investigation is underway in Bristow after a 7-year-old was sprayed with pepper spray by a postal worker.

Officials said there is an ongoing issue in the area with loose dogs chasing mail carriers.

“One of our postmen was bitten about a week or two ago on the other side of town. It’s been kind of a thorn, you know? Because a lot of dogs run loose. They aren’t supposed to, but they do,” said resident Ruth Tidwell.

Police said that last Saturday the 7-year-old girl was brought to the station by her grandparents. They reported that a postal worker sprayed the child and their pet Chihuahua with pepper spray.

Bristow’s police chief told FOX23 that the loose dogs have make postal workers extra cautious, and some have taken precautions to defend themselves.

As police continue to investigate, neighbors are hopeful it will be determined to be an accident.
