It's good to get these types of threads, the ridiculous my manager said bollox, so we can reassure ourselves that while the world is falling apart, Royal Mail managers are still being the low-life C***S they have always been.

The daily grind of having to argue your case with an intellectual pigmy of a line manager is physically and emotionally draining.

I'm on the wrong tax code too. They've put me on 500T/1 when I'm under the threshold for paying tax. I'm using it as a savings plan until I sort it out!
I was given a number to ring - it's 0300 2003300 (Tax Office).

Re: No tax code. Taking home £5 an hour.
Since I started I've had 480T/1, 0T/1 and now I've had it corrected to 992L/0.
The number given for the tax people is a good one, I rang early on a Thursday morning (about 0830), the initial voice message
said a wait of 35 minutes, but after speaking through the automated voice prompts it was only about 5 mins.
Just make sure you've got all your relevant info at hand ie Nat Ins numbers, previous job/pension info and tax docs.
They were actually very helpful. The week after I spoke to them, tax code was corrected and got a nice 290 quid tax refund
in next pay packet.
