Cutting off

Post by mh80 »

Normally if I do this I inform the Line Manager I can't get it done in my time, and bag up as normal, leaving a bag for someone on O/T or one of the managers ;). Do people do this differently at other places, leave mail in etc? At the moment cos of the backlog it's different - ie. prep 3 & 1/2 hrs worth, stay in til 9.30 then get back on time having been right round.

I was told to leave it in the frame but others took the work out and came back so it depends on the screw and if they feel like taking it out or leaving it to the casuals.

in our office you inform the manager and they tell you to take it all out and see how much you get done then bring the rest back.

Now I am not sure how this would go down but if they are paying casuals why don't they send them out with regular posties so that at least 1 of them knows what they are doing.

I personally would not like it and would be against it, but it just surprises me that they have not tried it.

do you bring it back in a van, say what if you've got more than 1 bag left? (or is that just me!)

It is obvious that you know roughly how much you are going to bring back.

Don't forget you have to factor in travelling time back to the office and your 20 meal relief if you only take 20 in the morning.

In our office you are told never to bring any mail back. we are also told to stream off rather than cut off. If you bring mail back or leave it in a box you could be done with wilful delay :wave

If you have more than 1 bag left leave them where they are you can only carry 1 bag back on a bike the bags that are left behind are for the manager to sort out just follow your managers,CWU reps guidance However DO NOT break any health and safety guidelines. If you do and you have an accident they will try to blame you

start at 0600. we tell the manager that there is to much work. this will be gone after the sorting.
the manager will come and see how much work there is and will therefore instruct the postie to start preping the 1st and 2nd class. this process will go on until around 0930. after informing the manager for a second time, he wil decide if he wants all the work preped or to bundle up. all the 1st class will probably be cleared.
IF WE BUNDLE-UP THE WORK AND TAKE IT OUT WE ARE NOT ALLOWED TO BRING IT BACK.
WE WERE TOLD THAT WE COULD BE DONE FOR WILLFUL DELAY IF WE RETURNED MAIL ONCE IT WAS OUT OF THE DOOR. ( THE REASON THEY GIVE IS 'INADEQUATE NOTIFICATION TO COMPLETE THE UPO'

PLEASE KEEP THE THREADS COMING.

IF THEIR ARE ANY REP PLEASE NOTIFY US OR THE OFFICIAL WAY.

PEACE OUT

The usual case scenario for us is once we've told them we're cutting off they ask later on what bit are we leaving. Then try and get someone to do it on overtime. Failing that, or if they wanna be arsey, it'll still be there the following morning.
If they're being particularly arsey they have, on occasion, told us to take it all out and bring back what we can't get done, then re-throw it back off into the frame. I did then point out that we could only bring 1 bag back due to health and safety, so what did they want bringing back, the P739 items or the part of the delivery that hadn't been done yet. Also as they wanted it re-thrown off we'd have to come back even earlier to give us time to do that. :d'oh!
Sometimes they see it as a personal insult or something that you might actually want to have a life outside of work

It seems to be an issue that needs clarifying, it never used to bother me completing my round and claiming the OT, not any more :no no , finish on my time, unfortunately the regular dum has been covering another office then been on holiday last week and this, not that he has got a clue either, i think he is in for a shock next week with most of the office working our paid hours, cheers adam

cutting off

In our office we inform our line manager when we have thrown out and we 'do a deal' so to speak. Last Saturday was so sh**e that 'deals' were being done every few minutes. So we negotiate here before we leave and don't bring the stuff back. No way am i working into the mid afternoon on a saturday!!! If we all followed this line how long before something was done?? Not too long methinks!

in our office the manager has started locking the door after the phg has left(security issues) nothings ever happened in god knows how many years, i just sometimes think the managers are deliberately p*ss us off for whatever twisted logic the managers are using nowadays, getting a bag taken off is like getting blood out of a stone, we have to verge on harrassing the manager just to get his head out of his arse

I used to finish the walk on overtime as it only happened occasionally and that you don't mind.

Now the work will exceed your finish time 2 or 3 times a week and it is getting beyond a joke.

I stayed out 1 1/2 hours extra in the rain with no break to complete a couple of weeks ago after a phone call from the DOM and spent most of the weekend asleep as a result,so since then I have come in on time taken my breaks and cut off leaving enough time to get back to the office and take my meal relief.

The overtime rate is appalling, you will only get about 7-8 quid after tax for staying out 1 1/2 hours extra meaning a total delivery time of 4 1/2 hours.

Clearing the walk on overtime is brushing the problem under the carpet and the screws will do nothing as the work is getting done and you are completely knackered while they :cuppa.

When the screws get tired of carrying the work out every day they will have to put in more duties to cover maybe they will use the new flexibility to bring people in later to clear up the work brought back?
