that would be a waste of resources, could just keep that postie on ips instead, send the specials out after 9 with the normal mail and try and fudge the time scans on the specials to hide what he has done, that's the reason but yeah should just send someone out in reality most do get 5 or 6 a month of before 9

Surprised that he's not had a bollocking for doing that, higher up can soon see if the item was scanned at the DO or at the delivery point

difference is being able to see and actually looking to see if it's happening are two different things, my dom doesn't but there are a few about who definately do

Are you sure these are ones that came out of the specials bag? As the nearly always need a signature the ones that come out through the packets are the ones that dont

Certainly not the case in my DO and i would say it's about 50/50 those that do or do not require a signature.
I've even seen identical items from the same sender to the same addressee on the same day - one via the specials bag and one through normal packets.

Simple way to tell is when you scan them on a PDA if there's a black dot next to the number then it will require a signature. If not, then it won't.

I think the whole reason behind the nonsense is the international agreement we have with a good many countries now.
Basically at the end of the year (or whenever) they add up how many items from say USA have passed through the scanning process. The USA in return do the same to items from the UK. The difference is what is paid from one mail service to the other. I'm sure that's not the whole thing, but that's pretty much the gist of it.

In my office, we have always told that anything we get from the locker must be delivered or attempted by 1pm. If this is untrue, why haven't the union stepped in over this. Probably every postie in our office will cut off from their normal delivery pattern to deliver 'international specials' before 1pm, myself included. I had 7 specials on my walk today, 5 of these were international.

EDIT: Also, as said in above post, most of the international packets do not require a signature.

I even think the Courier highlighted it too

All,

it took a while :cuppa , but in our DO nobody seems to know the official policy, so I found the Courier with the letter in it that refers to any incoming International items not needing to be delivered by a certain time (unless it's been changed since!).

It's the July 2014 issue (Page 15, Letterbox), which can be found here:
