Re: Jes we can Labour
Councils use that process to buy buildings in the way of future building or road developments, and the owners are paid the current market value of the property, so apart from those basic differences, you're right, absolute dead ringer, mate...

I look forward to seeing the holiday snaps of Tman and Busted from when they visit Kobani and perhaps they could have their picture taken with those fit, well dressed young men at Palmyra - maybe holding up an issue of the Courier?

If Merkel carries on we'll simply be moving Palmyra and Kobani to Europe anyway. So not really far enough away to warrant waving the Courier from.

Re: Jes we can Labour
Listening to Corbyn's chancellor on LBC yesterday morning, he was asked by Ken Livingstone and the tory about renationalising RM, his reply, they have probably been lost so wouldn't be getting your hopes up anytime soon.
Corbyn says a lot of things, scrap Trident, pull out of Nato apparently, not heard him say either personally but a lot of people are worried by those comments. Whatever he say's though, we live in a democracy so he can't do those things without the support of the commons.
What I like about him, he say's what he thinks and to hell with what the murdoch scummy press say. Can't imagine why anybody would buy that rubbish, especially people in unions, can't understand why union members would vote tory either, they detest us.

Trouble is, most of those "refugees" (although even the BBC seems more guarded about using that term now) have no more set foot in Palmyra than you have, and even though Sky (Saturday morning) broadcast an interview with a young Afghan who said everyone says they're from Syria when they're not as that what they were advised to do to reinforce the refugee status, clearly there's still those who feel duped enough to carry on the deceit of " fleeing Syrian refugees".motherhubbard wrote:I look forward to seeing the holiday snaps of Tman and Busted from when they visit Kobani and perhaps they could have their picture taken with those fit, well dressed young men at Palmyra - maybe holding up an issue of the Courier?
You're right about one thing though, clearly enough spin for a Courier special feature.

The trouble is a lot of people are refugees yet you and Busted seemed determined to downplay the seriousness of their situation.Tman wrote:

Whether they be Syrians, Afghans (like the British Army translator I mentioned earlier) Iraqis or Libyans - a lot of people are fleeing a situation where Western meddling has created a power vacuum exploited by Isis, Isil, Daesh or whatever you want to call it.
And the trouble is that while you purport to be defending Britain ( we don't have the resources, we don't have the jobs etc) your stance is so totally anti British that it is embarrassing. So while the British public are donating to help these people in their hour of need, as British people always have and always will, your lack of compassion shows you up for what you really are.

More high-minded old tosh. I don't "purport" to be defending anyone, but merely highlighting (as many others are now too) that in the "rush to gush" (much by those who should know better) basic facts concerning the origins of many of the migrants has been obscured or ignored.motherhubbard wrote:The trouble is a lot of people are refugees yet you and Busted seemed determined to downplay the seriousness of their situation.Tman wrote:

Seems to be very large numbers of us "anti-British" about these days. Maybe "we" don't feel too much sympathy for those who've swelled the genuine refugees's ranks in attempts to by-pass/circumvent the EU entry restrictions, but hey, if you're mug enough to...
{Just seen pictures from the Austrian border on SkyTV where a few thousand have arrived....yep, those clearly well-fed, healthy and smiling young blokes deserve such compassion....

What tosh. 'Anti British'? It's the governments who carry out most 'anti British' deeds, not the people. Obviously the relatively few students, cardigan-wearers and lentil brigade that vociferously support these deeds gain most coverage and it is erroneously assumed by persons like yourself that this is the way we all feel. Unfortunately it is certain that some of these will eventually commit serious crimes and even terrorism against us, but of course that's not as 'anti British' as me disagreeing with the government.motherhubbard wrote:The trouble is a lot of people are refugees yet you and Busted seemed determined to downplay the seriousness of their situation.Tman wrote:

Experience here and in every other country that has imported large numbers from this part of the world shows how quickly the wide-eyed and needy in the pictures we are fed, transform into ungrateful and subversive elements in Western Christian states.
Do your homework and see how the 'kindness' of Germany, France, Sweden, Norway, Switzerland, Denmark, Holland and Belgium has backfired on them, but of course to the detriment of their public service workers and those unfortunate enough to live in the vicinity of 'muslim areas' - whom of course are never the politicians who allowed it.
The facts are out there, and yes the mainstream media find them non-PC and very inconvenient. Perhaps you should take a look. Help them by all means, but as Cameron said it's better to aim the help to the region.

compassion? is it compassionate to pressure the government to bring in 20,000 people and leave the destitute and homeless in Britain abandoned.I think we need to re think our priorities.

Our priority should always be those in need - irrespective of their colour or creed.tiggle wrote:

The same political class that is happy to see the poor and destitute living on the streets is the same political class that is happy to watch families die in the Mediterranean.
It isn't a matter of either/or.
We should be helping both.

Re: Jes we can Labour
I would agree with much of that video and in my very long experience of allowing entrance to migrants, todays migrants are tomorrows criminal headline which, seemingly, once convicted we still can't get rid of them. We are far too soft as a nation much of it in response to EU legislation and petty do-gooders with a penchant for PC correctness. I would close the borders altogether allowing no one in until every person in the UK has a home and a job and there is no need for food banks. Just think of all the money wasted on foreign aid over the last 40 or 50 years, the billions propping up the banks and the cost of military intervention abroad and now think how that would make a difference to poverty here at home.bustedflush wrote:Pretty accurate synopsis of the 'Syrian' crisis.

"Say you're a desperate refugee, stick yourself in a small boat and call for help.happy to watch families die in the Mediterranean.
Help will come, you'll be picked up and you'll soon be in the Promised Land.
Even though they know we're just acting a part they're still too gullible to send us back.
Too easy"

Leaves me wondering who and what Tman and Bustedflush actually do support?

Don't know what's meant here by "support", but I'd definitely support a media which was less hand-wringing subjective and a lot more impartial, truthful and accurate.
Wouldn't you?
Other countries/areas are deemed grown up enough to make up their own minds about what's going on (and seem to have caught on to the reality of the situation) so why should the UK audiences be treated differently?
