Exactly. To be honest, I'd gladly wear one on my wrist.

That would be the driver ?

Maybe your van share duties are different, but they are usually made up of a a driver and a passenger.

We were told that it is to monitor economy, and driving style. What I want to know is, what do they do when it is clear the driver has no idea how to use a five speed gearbox? Do they give him driving lessons? In work time? Who pays?

Or.. is it a general thing, when they see that 2 or 3 drivers in an office can barely drive never mind drive economically, is the whole office subjected to 'advice' on how to drive?

There actually was a handout on how to drive & driving safety given out a couple of years ago at my DO...

I kinda felt insulted while holding it for the 30 seconds it took me to drop it in the bin on the way out of the team meeting.

Can't see it myself, I'm guessing it's just a tactic by union and managers to scare you

We're having them fitted to all vans. I've already had one, you'll see the metal/black plastic aerial bracket on the top right of the dash under the screen on the BIppers. Won't make any difference. The managers aren't bright enough to check you all at once or to use the info. The runners simply do their rounds and go back to the nearest position on their round to shop/bookies/bakers etc, and lie up. If asked they can say they walked from that point. They will still come back and go early, or take turns for one to be dropped home at 12 while the other takes the van back at the earliest time possible to not be sent out again.
The slower ones/extenders will be picked on, not the runners. You'll get DIMs asking why the van was parked on loop 2 for that round (which takes xxx runner 50 minutes) but took you 70 minutes.....

You'll be carrying one in your pocket soon - the new PDAs. They are smart phone based and who can't track their own phones now.

Does that mean that if a deer or something runs out in front of me, I shouldn't brake (sharply), or it will be a black mark?

Will we be able to use it to ring the office, for work related or emergency situations? And will they answer it, I suppose is more to the point. Our office phone rings out unanswered for so long, I can still hear it for the first hour of my walk.

These are by no means new, we had them just a few years ago here and they ended up taking them all out again, more trouble than they're worth!

Which is easier
(a) explaining why, as an isolated incident, you braked suddenly or
(b) filling in the accident report and explaining significant damage to your van and the death of a deer ?
