Poorly postman affecting Brentwood mail deliveries

Infrequent and unreliable postal deliveries in Brentwood have been blamed on high number of stafftaking time off on sickness leave.

One resident - who lives in Pilgrims Hatch – has been experiencing a unreliable mail service for about two weeks.

Brian Lynch, who lives in Marlborough Road, said: "Two weeks ago I had no mail from Friday until Thursday and in that period I should have had a cheque and a TV magazine – the cheque arrived 10 days late and the magazine arrived with just two days left on it.

"One night the mail arrived at 6pm in the evening."

This week he had had nothing arrive until 2pm on Thursday.

A spokesman for Royal Mail said: "We recently experienced a higher than average level of sickness absence at our Brentwood office which temporarily impacted our service. We are confident these issues are now resolved and apologise for any delays to mail being received.

"The most recently available Quality of Service data available for the CM postcode area shows 93.1 per cent of First Class mail is delivered the next working day after posting, against a target of 93.0 per cent.

"Any customer who has concerns about their mail delivery should contact Royal Mail Customer Services on 03457 740740."

Indeed. There is simply no fat left to trim now and DIMs increasingly reliant on the docketeers, people working their RWO as OT etc.
Then it all catches up with them and they go sick, wear joints out or the stress builds up to breaking point. In our office there is officially no such term as 'summer lapsing' or 'winter lapsing' as from last week. Except December before Xmas we will be given daily lapsing based on forecasts for the following week; in other words we'll no doubt be given summer's lapsing loops EVERY week to try and absorb rounds no longer covered.

They recently advertised 9 rounds with no duty holder in my place. The 2 FT ones have had people shoehorned in based on seniority from the sorting machines, a couple are only your round for 4 weeks in December and lapsed for the other 48 weeks (YES WHAT IS THE ****ING POINT??) and 1 has been 'put on ice' due to summer lapsing still being worked (it's a 9-month duty lapsed JJ and August).

The 4 remaining are 3 x 30 hours and 1 x 32.5 hours. One has been taken down due to a medical reason for the present temporary duty holder (relative newbie) which means they have to do that round and no other! (???)

So 3 are left. All PT.
