This week I am throwing off 2 walks, the first has buddy boxes that cover 5 walks in total and the other walk has buddies that cover 6 walks. Fine if you are the walk holder and know the splits but otherwise
The other problem is the sheer amount of the bloody things 12 on the first and 8 on the second and that's on a "quiet" Tuesday
It's a tray of mixed mail covering more than one walk that has to be sorted by the person prepping the walk rather than by someone on the IPS frame and is very time consuming unless you know all the walks that the box covers.
buddy boxes should only really have 2 or 3 walks at most any more than that it's basically ips work, a buddy box of 5 or 6 walks would be sorted quicker at an ips frame rather than each walk getting their turn on the box
Years ago the mech bundles used to come in from the MC buddied up with another walk. Then they split it to make it all more efficient. We used to empty letter boxes after completing our first delivery, they scrapped that and now we collect from letter boxes after our delivery.. It's funny how these things go around in circles. I suspect one day, they will bring in delivery by bicycle and two deliveries a day. Progress my posterior.

We're going to be emptying post boxes on delivery now! Hope there won't be a drop bag full of mail as it'll be a bit of a squeeze in an HCT along with the rest of the mail & packets for the walk.....

You have to be prepared to keep learning in any job.
Learn the walks.

Our problem is mass housebuilding and nobody to deliver the mail, no extra frames to sort it. no extra vans
Plus less staff to deliver it

20 years + staff should know all the walks.
You really have no idea what you're talking about.
Oh the joys of being a reserve in a large office, although there has been a review since my original post, and our buddy boxes now only cover a maximum of 4 walks.
