The rules on this are really quite vague when you enter the world of annualised hours - there are various periods over which the hours are calculated but you can bet your arse they aren't in our favour.

I think we are going to get used to analisation in the coming months.

all this banked hours stuff... How do they plan on forcing us to work extra hours some weeks and less on others, when the incoming EU Law states that employees shouldn't work more than 35 hours a week? It's not coming in for a while yet, but it will do eventually...

also, how long until the system shuts down and loses all the info on our banked hours?

Whats the betting that this is one EU law that doesn't suit so they will try to wriggle out of,

Sorry, but the 48 hr rule is really very very lax.

I may be wrong on the fine detail here, but I'm sure someone will correct it, the nub of it is this...

Over a 16 week period, you can't work more than 48 hours....

so, some weeks you can work more, some weeks less. BUT... and it's the most important BUT...

If in that 16 week period you take a weeks leave, or are off sick.. then those hours are deducted from the average....

Basically... if you work 49 hours every week for 16 weeks straight, it's against the law. If you work for 16 weeks, but have a week off at some point, then 40 hours are deducted from the average, making you "legal".

Quite prepared to be proved wrong... but that's how I understand it.
