Cancelling stamps in mail centres:Protecting our revenue

Post by POSTMAN »

While our new hand-stamping tool will help our postmen and women protect our revenue, mail centres are the first line of defence in making sure stamps are cancelled.

In a mail centre, it’s important that the stamp cancelling function on your machine is on and working properly at all times. Your machine works at the same speed regardless of whether the stamp-cancelling function is on or off.

Troubleshooting

There are a number of reasons a stamped letter may still be processed through the machine and not cancelled.

The letter is not processed through the correct machine configuration
It was not detected by the machine, for example due to a dirty scanner
The printer may have run out of ink
The printer may be faulty or not maintained
If you experience any difficulty with your machine, please speak to your manager.

In addition to machines, all mail centres should have their manual hand-stamp areas staffed at all times.

Revenue protection is everyone’s responsibility.

It's good to get these types of threads, the ridiculous my manager said bollox, so we can reassure ourselves that while the world is falling apart, Royal Mail managers are still being the low-life C***S they have always been.

Or the CFC cancellers have run out of ink, and no-one is willing or able to have a go at refilling them as the regular bloke is on leave/taken EVR.
Or the wavy-line etc die-faces are worn or sh*t-caked, and the bloke who knows how to clean and replace them is on leave/taken EVR.
Or the impression rubbers are totally worn out but no-one on the stackers is willing or able to check the impressions, and the dopey stand-in ex-postie manager neither knows nor cares about the quality of the impressions.
And that's what happens in RM when only one person is ever trained for a specific task.... :whistle

Where do they expect the time to come from?

Maybe the 'best practice' of coming in early :Applause and working through breaks :cuppa could be extended from Delivery Offices to Mail Centres.

The manual hand cancelling duties in my former mc were scrapped as part of 'modernisation' and increased efficiencies.

Don't do it ... if you do ... mail centres are loosing hand stamps duties. With in last two weeks ( due to this system in delivery offices) we have lost 2 jobs in our mail centre.

Cancelling stamps in mail centres:Protecting our revenue

Bit of a necro of an old post but a couple of more;

Manager(s) told staff to stop manually stamping one night many months ago and have never started again.
Stamps/Ink Pads and Ink vanished from the work area over Christmas, always happens when we have casual workers in...
