Please can anyone help me make sense of this

Post by stephaniewakeford »

ok so been on the waiting list for about two months.applied for a role already whilst on it and didn't get it as was in their words, beaten to it by another waiting list candidate.
Another role came up at my local DO on 28/07 so I sent my email (said job had only been listed an hour previous)
Week later no reply at all so have sent a couple of emails now to just double check I hadn't been missed etc
Nothing as yet but looked online this morning and the job says position now filled (i saw this when I applied before my original interview so think it means that they have reached the application limit)
So I sent another email this morning just asking if they could let me know if it has now gone but no reply

Should I give up hope? I don't get why they still open up the job when they have people waiting that have passed the interview already etc

I want this job so badly but the silence and waiting is putting my confidence at a real low

Any success stories or anyone know the process for waiting list candidates?

Thank you

Steph,

not sure how the waiting list works, but as to your question
I don't get why they still open up the job when they have people waiting that have passed the interview already etc
although I don't think it's a legal requirement that jobs have to be opened up to everyone, RM might be erring on the side of caution to avoid a discrimination
claim from someone outside RM/not on a waiting list who could have applied for the job but didn't because it wasn't advertised.

Keep trying and good luck!

I can't pretend to know the process but I am a waiting list candidate at the moment!
It took a week to get a reply after I had asked to be considered for a post when on the waiting list. Since then I've had several emails. First there was something missing, then I had to fill in past-employment, then I had to confirm something. At one point I got an email saying I was in the security check stage which would take up to 14 days and then I'd be given a start date. My status changed from "pre-employment checks" to "in progress". Two weeks later I got an email offering me the role but that they would have to do pre-employment checks which would take up to 14 days and my status changed back to "pre-employment checks"!! I seem to be going round in circles.
It's a complete mystery to me!
I have read posts where people have waited a long, long time and been successful though, so don't give up!! Good luck.....

Thank you both so much for taking the time to reply.
I have just been emailing as it said to do in my email from them, that I don't need to re apply but send an email to myapplication@royalmail.com
If I go onto my profile on their site it just says I have no current applications, should it say something?
I have had no reply at all despite sending 3 emails now but don't want to go overboard and annoy them.
It's such a shame because the guy that interviewed me was the one that asked if I would be interested in a postwomans role that would probably be coming up as he thought I would be great.im assuming tha bis is the job. (I went for a collections and network driver originally)
Is there anything else I can try?
Thanks again

Steph,

it might be worth giving this number a call - 01142 414422, which has been posted in a few threads. It's the Recruiting or HR number at Sheffield.

They might be able to assist, it will save you sending numerous emails. Just bear in mind it's the summer hols, so it might take them more
time to provide you with an answer.

Thanks so much!
I rang the number and the girl found my emails eventually, said there was a back log but don't worry they are working through them.
She didn't seem at all impressed when she answered though and asked me where I got the number from?!
I said online and she said oh that's good to know, very odd.are you not supposed to ring them? (Confused lol)

At least I know now that I haven't been overlooked, so thank you :)

Can this happen? does it sound fair? I just have such a bad feeling that maybe the back log of emails has meant I've been missed even being considered?
I'm trying to work it out, I have another month on the waiting list but I only live in a small Cornish town, I'm not holding out much hope.so so disappointed

Sorry that you've experienced this - sounds rubbish.
So little of the whole process makes sense to me. I think maybe once you're on the waiting list things are not so straightforward. I certainly seem to get emails not only from "myapplication@royalmail....... but also "recruitment@royalmailgroup sometimes saying the same thing in different words but weeks apart. It's as if my application is in two places!

Could you maybe apply for a post a bit farther afield and then try for a transfer?
Or ring the number again just to make absolutely sure?
Also, have you tried chatting to your postie? I mentioned to mine that I was trying for a job and he was great, explained quite a few things that I had been confused about and now I feel that if I ever do start I'll know someone there!
Hope you have better news soon.
