Interesting thread..

Our union rep is campaigning for posties to use the trolleys provided because he believes that posties can be disciplined for carrying the bags on the shoulder. Its not something that managers are keen to do because they know that nearly everyone does this and it saves the business both time and money. Also, I have often witnessed managers carrying the mail on the shoulder when they have had to deliver the mail themselves....

I also think that it is not only unfair to expect another postie to deliver mail that should have been delivered yesterday, but if you can't take pics on Royal Mail property, where else can it be accurately reported by the postie without it having a negative impact on the postie concerned? Whistle blowing hotline perhaps?? We all know that managers fiddle the figures and make it look like the office is achieving all its targets; but this is rarely the case. Reading the last courier, Moya talks about efficiency. Where is the efficiency if the manager does not get disciplined for this? At the end of the day the line manager is responsible for ensuring that all the mail gets delivered in their section. If they cannot get adequate cover for getting all the duties delivered, then at last resort they have to deliver it themselves. If they fail, then that to me is wilful delay....
On the face of it, shareholder value is the dumbest idea in the world.
