The best way to avoid this is to keep your car well away from Royal Mail premises and commute in an RM van that you have on Overnight Retention.

Ok, so let's say you are in your car. it's stationary and a RM van hits you, damages your car and causes you whip-lash. Only the personal injury is covered but not the damage to your car? Seems really odd.
RM indemnifies it's own vehicle fleet. Of course the damage to your vehicle would be covered... third party insurance, it's only be law since about the 1930s..

Now I see your confusion. Royal Mail don't take responsibility for damage that occurs in its car parks when it has that notice, unless they are directly involved, its up to the individuals concerned even if they are both employees. In other words you cant sue RM for damage to your vehicle when its caused by another person.
However, if a RM van, or any liveried vehicle collides with your vehicle then by definition they become a concerned party and will deal with it. Also if damage to you or vehicle is caused by negligent action by an employee of Royal Mail when working for them, then you have a claim.

OK I see, so the 'park at your own risk' sign essentially means 'The landowner/tenant (RM) will not pay for any damage to your vehicle caused by a third party that occurs on this land.' However if RM/employee cause the damage they WILL be liable.
This begs another question - if you drive into your OWN car in a RM van will RM pay for the damage?

Sorry misread your first post. If whilst driving a RM vehicle you collide with your own private car the on the collision RM should repair your car.
However it would have adverse affects in 2 areas. Undoubtedly RM would probably decide to investigate the "accident" and may bring a disciplinary.
Your own insurance company will ask who was driving RMs van so it would probably affect the cost of your insurance when you renew it. They would also probably do more than a cursory investigation, an if they even suspect a case of improper conduct they may call in the Police.
In essence keep as far away from your car as p[possible when driving for RM.

Stay away from your own car is good advice. I don't suppose if you come round a corner and hit it you could say 'I didn't know it was there' - not if you parked it yourself a few hours earlier.

So my car was damaged in the RM car park by an employee pulling the Washer hose around the top of my vehicle.
Causing £1000 worth of repairs.
Where do I stand on this?
Managers say RM are not responsible, yet it happened in a gated yard ( it had to be RM personnel ) using RM equipment.
I was parked next to the wash bay and have a good idea who did it. (When questioned about it said he wasn't working that day yet he signed in to do a duty right about the time of the damage. He went on to say that he didn't want to own up as he thought he would be in trouble.....)
