Everyone busy in their new jobs yet?

Post by Amyloulou »

Been quiet on here for the past few days, I like to read what people are going through on here. I'm at the security check stage now and only 8 days in, I hate waiting I just want a start date, and any experience of how quick or long your checks took would be appreciated, ( I know about the 14 day checks but I like conversation ha) :wave :thumbup

Hi Amyloulou
Going off the topic of your subject but I was just wondering how long it took before you heard whether you had been successful with your interview? I have been reading through the posts and lots of people have had various timescales. I had my interview a week ago (23rd July) for post-person with driving, interview seemed to go pretty well although some of the example/scenario questions were a bit daunting!! Anyway the problem I have is that I have been offered a job for somewhere else I applied to but my heart is really with the postie position and if I turn the job down while waiting to hear from RM and then I get an unsuccessful email from RM I would have lost out on the other job.

Hi Jenny102, it took one week and a day to find out I had passed my interview but it could be up to 10 days so there is still hope for you don't give up, especially if your heart is in the Royal Mail job, sometimes when things seem a bit hard in your case the interview it could mean good news too.. Just stay positive and wait until the full 10 days is over, also log in to your application on line and check what that says just in case :).. Good luck

Hi Amyloulou
Thanks for your reply. Yes I'm trying to stay positive and have fingers (and everything crossed LOL)
Its just this other job has been waiting a few weeks now for a decision from me and have gave me till tomorrow for final decision.
I have noticed on another post were somebody put a contact number for Recruitment, now I know they are going to be busy dealing with applications from all over the country but wondered if it may be worth my giving them a call to enquire or whether this may look too pushy (but then again also determined) ?
Yes I keep a constant check on my online application profile for any updates.

Giving them a ring wouldn't hurt, and having to give this other job a reply tomorrow is a bit of a pain but maybe you could take that job and continue with your application as it could be another month before you start if you were successful in the interview, so for a bit of money coming in I wouldn't reject this other job, you could always leave if you find you pass the interview.. In worse case scenario it could be bad news from royal mail but you'd still have another job if you get me

Well I'm working at the moment anyway, currently self-employed childminder and am finishing it on 21st August.
Maybe other job will hold off for another week (hopefully thinking).
I will possible call the recruitment team later today.

Hi tatts37
Yes 01142 414422 is the number. I was about to try the email but then decided to try the phone number, I got through straight away. She was really, really nice & very helpful, called me back with more info, although unfortunately not very good news for me I'm afraid. I apparently passed the interview but position/s have been given to someone else, I have been placed on the wait list though for 3 months. Atleast I have the other job I have been offered so have that as backup, so I can see how that goes in the meantime, especially as I've been a self employed childminder for the last 14 years so it will get me back into the 'normal' employment again.
Thanks to everyone on here who gives valuable info & advice :Applause

I started on Monday! Applied in May and was given a start date of 13th July but couldn't start as was on holiday. Really enjoying it so far. Had induction in Warrington on Monday and was out on a round on Tuesday! It's incredibly tiring as you are walking for at least 3 hours a day but it's been good so far and I get paid tomorrow! :Very Happy

Hi tatts37
It took nearly 4 weeks for me to get the interview email. Applied 22nd June and had interview email 17th July asking me to choose interview slot for the following week.
