Re: Lincoln beware
Why doesn't the modern RM just sack these loud-mouthed, arrogant bullies? I have met a few over the years and just ignored them, but they need to be removed completely from the business, or prosecuted. Nobody benefits from 1970s-style management.blair-jakehead wrote:Arrogant bully who failed in Kingston upon Hull

Re: Lincoln beware
Hopefully Lincoln won't send him our way, as payback for what we sent them a couple of years back.

Re: Lincoln beware
Arrogant manager??
What posties don't realise is that a DOM or Sector Manager has much more to lose than us. They may be on good salaries and bonuses but they are constantly striving to prove themselves to their superiors, whether that be the office budget, % of tracked items delivered or customer complaints. Whereas, we as mere posties don't have anything to prove at all!! Remember that as it is important.
We simply do our job. If we don't have time to take out the extra lapse because the line manager wants to make his budget; we don't take it. If the manager wants to give us grief and talk about why we are not taking the lapse for another 20 minutes, then we will take another 20 minutes worth of packets/letters off the delivery! If they want us to take all the items out on delivery and receive a telephone call at 1pm when we want some bags and packets taking off us; then we will do that (once used as a ploy by a lino to goad you into delivering everything, it actually causes them a greater headache later on!), if we happen to bring half a dozen tracked items when we return back to the office on time; then we will return back to the office with half a dozen tracked items. If the manager/DOM wants to prep test us, then let them prep test us. I've never known anyone fail a prep test yet. And thats because when done correctly, it is impossible not to!! A postie with X years experience and needing counselling as he is now too slow to do the job?? Yeah right....and so, as a last resort, they may take you off the delivery, eventually to an easier one.
Times are changing, but if you do the job properly, using trolleys on the loops then you should be fine. Managers cannot force anyone to work past their time. It is entirely voluntary. Yet, it makes me laugh why so many posties hate taking out this extra lapse just for a quiet life, and then arrive back at the depot half an hour later than their finish time, even though many of them would much rather be on time!?! It is actually quite difficult to sack someone these days, especially if you have followed procedure and you have a really good union rep. Thats not necessarily the unit rep in your office by the way.....

Yes, a DOM or Sector Manager might have much more to lose than us but a DOM or Sector Manager gets paid much more than us.postslippete wrote:Arrogant manager??

If anyone applying for a DOM or Sector Manager job doesn't first find out what that role entails then they've very much got their self to blame.

A lot of what you say is true; but some of it is wrong or not that cut and dry. Prove themselves yes, but the way they do it is absolutely disgraceful. I'll take a walk test as much as any Postie, but the 20 minutes you're talking about is us trying to prove we are doing the job properly. The mail brought back isn't the end of the world for me: It'll just get mixed in tomorrow's, but it's ample proof I was right and honest, albeit too late in the day - The shift is over. He did his job (talked me into taking it out). Tomorrow is another day. He can get to work wearing us down then. THIS is what needs stopping.
